Is this holding anyone else back from getting a IX too???

Heyy...

I really am interested in the IX and would like to purchase one within the next month of two. There is one thing that is going through my mind though: the future of the IX's. I know that I am not interested in a X, which seems like it is holding off quite a few IX buyers. Im not the fondest of the looks, no-4G63, higher price, etc. I know I want the IX. I am just scared that I will buy a 2006 IX and in 2007 or 2008 they will release a IX with xx more horsepower with better features. If we had facts that this is the last EVO made before the IX, I would feel much better and would purchase it. I just dont want what happened the the VIII's (05>03,04) happening to the IX's.

If you thought this, what influenced your opinion to purchase a 2006 IX? Any new information?

Thanks!

Don't think that hard into it. If you want the car, get it. Even if a new Evo comes out with more power, its going to be a while. So ask yourself, is a few more "stock" hp worth waiting a year for? Not hardly. Pick up a IX, enjoy it for a year, and IF a new one comes out with a few more HP and you want to keep up, put a TBE, flash, MBC, and Walbro in it. But more then likely, you'll be doing those mods soon after you get the car anyway. And even if you don't, at least you'll be having fun with it this spring and summer.

As someone said before, its an Evolution! They Evolve! I was once this way until i drove one. Had to have it. No matter if its an 03 or an 07, they are still great cars. What ever you decide to do "DO IT! do it!"

I purchased the IX near the end of 2005 knowing that the X may be coming out shortly. I went and got the IX for numerous reasons.

1. Styling compared to the pics of the X. I think that the X is a good looking car, but it does not at all look like an Evo. I absolutely love the way the IX looks.

2. The 4G63 engine has been around for a long time. This engine has lasted the "Test of Time". I realize they are trying to make more HP with a new engine in the X. This just scares me. If I were to wait for the X, I wouldn’t buy it right away. I would then have to wait for the XI or later gens to make sure that the flaws are corrected.

3. The pre X Evos are easily modified and there is a huge amount of support by people who really know what they are doing with the engine/drivetrain setup of these cars.

Sure the X might have more stock HP, but what’s stopping the IX from having a few mods and blowing it out of the water?

This is all my opinion. Others may disagree.

Let me know what you decide, I am curious what you think.

Yea I'm going to have to agree with everyone, go for the IX, I have an 03 8 and sure the 05s and 06s are faster, but its still an evo. Besides, if I want to be faster than a 9 I can always do a turbo upgrade haha

I thought of the same thing as you, and i am waiting for the last year. Though i am mainly doing this because I just picked up an '05.

But think about it this way, it really doesn't take much to turn an '03 into and '05. I'm sure your right, and they will make minor changes, but you will easily get your hands on the changes and apply them to your car.

Though STILL each and every day i think about trading in my VIII for a IX; I'm not sure how long I will be able to hold out..

You gotta jump in some time. Be happy it's a IX. I have a 2003 VIII. I have no regrets. Hell, I am becoming old school.

If you really want to use the "wait and see" logic, don't buy a computer either.

Man people need a lesson on making thread titles...it sounds like there is something wrong with the car when there's nothing wrong with it.

They are always going to make the next one bigger and better. The IX is an incredible car and you won't be dissappointed. If you like the looks of the X, don't have the money now and will regret buying an IX then wait meanwhile I'll be busy enjoying my IX while you're still waiting.

But then you trade and next thing you know the X's will make 60-70 whp and 70-100ft/lbs of tq with a reflash. What happens then, everyone will want X's. But the XI's wont have the software issues for the dsg type gear box that the X's have. What happens then, everybody wants XI's. See what I mean. It never ends. If your rich and you dont give a crap, which many on this site are, then it doesnt matter. But if you got a $400+ a month car note like many on this site do, than it is not the best choice. Just buy what you want now, and wait a few years for something else.

I got my IX and have no regrets, and certainly won't be envious of the X when it comes out with increased power as I prefer the IX looks and know I can mod it to be just as fast if not faster than it.

I would get the IX

I know there are only rumors to the X, but from what I've read in speculation, it seems it is going to be a more "mainstream" car (Paddle shifters, quieter, more expensive...)

If this is true, the IX maybe the last "true" Evo...

Same situation here. I've been getting calls from mitsu that they're looking for 05 models and will give me top dollar for it, then sell me their ix under msrp.?!?!?!?! The only thing/person keeping me back is my wife, she says "You just got this one a year ago, just wait a couple more years and then get the new one, btw it's my turn to get a new car" lol That's what i'm dealing with
