Evo 9 growl compared to evo 8

One thing I noticed is that the engine now has a deep growl, almost to the point that I wonder if I have an exhaust leak. It isn't making a ticking sound, but a deep growl that my 8 did not make. Those who made the switch, did you notice the same thing?

My EVO kind of sounds like a gremlin, I've decided to call her Gremlin. I know some people like to call their cars Betty or Judy, or some chick name, but mine is now Gremlin.

I've noticed mine is much louder then it was with my 03. But then again, I have a tanabe downpipe on my IX so that might be the reason.

Actually, I noticed the same thing when I got home today. The exhaust note is lower and slightly louder at idle and cruising speeds. I have to do some research and see if they somewhat change the plumbing on the exhaust or muffler. It sounds gooood...

I've read that the 06 Evo IX runs a bit cleaner than the previous models. The good thing about it running cleaner is that it allowed them to put a higher flowing less restrictive cat on the stock exhaust. I'll try to see if I can find where I read that and post the source.

Wow, they really made a lot of changes/improvements on the IX.

I didn't think there'd be so many. Nice to see mitsu made a good effort.

Yeah I'm interested in this too, I haven't owned an evo 8 but friends and family tell me they hear me down the block and I'm usually driving slow cause of kids and don't want to **** my neighbors off.

I've also noticed the engine on my new ix sounds very different from my old 05. It sounds more like a metal sound resonating in the head area somewhere. I wondered if the rods are banging around in the engine cause it made a loud metal sound when I'm revving past 3k. Maybe its the new mivec but I also noticed the exhaust tone is more deeper. Funny thing is that I actually set off an alarm while I was driving around in the streets.
