There's no way this guy pulled his engine to dyno it, I think he's a little confused..

Ya sorry Warr they were corrected Hp figures I was giving. I got onto the guy today and the whp was 216.4bhp pretty crap really isnt it. The thing is the car is running 100% I think its more down to the fuel and not having it tuned.
The mods on the car are a test pipe a hks hi power cat back a hks rs intake with no tune. Since then I have got a O2 hosing fitted a Dp and a Dc sports manifold feels like there a good bit more power now.
I have a power fc and avc-r to go on but I will wait till I have gotten my gsc 264/272 cams fitted and then get it all mapped together.
Should have a good bit more power then what do you guys think.
Wish I lived over in with you guys you have the best tuners, parts, weather, etc the list goes on...

intake with no tune is bad, hell I would drop the intake all together.

Funnyclub, I predicted this way back in that first thread where you showed your list of expensive mods if you recall...

True Warr but not all the exspensive mods have been fitted in those numbers.
Oh and I never installed that carbon air box I sold it on. The cat back was on the car when I got it so I have only fitted the test pipe and intake.

By the way for the record guys I find the intake better than stock. Also why do you guys say an intake is a bad idea without a tune. The guy who dyno' d the car said the fueling was fine. I think the VIII"s might suffer worse with an intake without a tune.

But as I said I have since had the O2 and Dp and a dc sports exhaust manifold fitted and its seems a good bit quicker. I will also have gsc 264/272 cams going on and then turning the boost up with the avc-r and tuned with the power fc.
So I should see a nice increase in power then.

Buy the way guys just out of Curiosity what would a stock evo 8 in the US but down atw's also any idea what oone with just an intake, cat back and no flash do.

Umm... I don't know how tuners do it, but gearbox losses are a bit of a black art. It's also speed related so it's all a bit complicated 'cos you include diffs and everything. I don't think it's anything like taking the flywheel/crank hp and then multiplying it be a number.

In anycase, I think the best thing is to dyno the thing before all the mods. Put the mods on then dyno again and subtract. If it's 216.4 then that's pretty lame and like many, I'd blame the intake (if it isn't the 'reloaded' version). I mean a test pipe shold at least give you somehting. I'd get the car back in its stock setup and dyno again. Also, as somebody said, it also depends on the dyno...

I think the reason most intake need some sort of tune is that their pipes are larger than stock and sometimes teh MAF is located off-centre from the pipe. What the sensor sees is a lower velocity than with a stock pipe so thinks there less air going into the engine than there actaully is. It then uses this incorrect flow rate to work out what the various parameters should be which inveitably results in poorer performance. Sometimes, you can get pipes that produce strange effects which I gather to be somekind of flow stability issue in the intake pipe which also results in bogus readings. The K&N Typhoon is one i see people b1tch about the most.
