IX w/ or w/o SSL? Moonroof install price?
Hey All,
I am debating on whether or not to get my new IX with SSL or without it. I know that in the first few months that I have it that id like to install a much better full audio system. However, i know that I want a moonroof/sunroof deal... Also, if i were not to get the leather, i would probably get a custom Katzkin leather install... Any thoughts? How much would the moon roof installation cost? Would it be set up right? Has anyone had this done? Would it be worth it to go without SSL, get my own audio system, have the sunroof installed, and a custom Katzkin installation instead for a little bit more?
All thoughts would be appreciated

I don't think you want to mess with adding a power moonroof. That could be problematic in the long run. If you absolutely must have the moonroof (not sure why on a purebred racecar), I would just get the SSL. The heavy stereo is up to you, but I'mnot sure you've stopped to think about the car you are purchasing. You are buying an Evo, not a Civic. Please consider what you are doing before making the car slower than stock with less handling ability than stock and louder than stock without the noise coming from the exhaust. I have no idea what that leather stuff is you're talking about, but it really doesn't sound like you have a full understanding of what an Evo is...

I do not understand how you came up with nearly any of that...
-The evo would be my DD (daily driver), i wouldnt just race it on weekends. A sunroof/moonroof would be very nice for cruising purposes and I really enjoy the one I currently have on my Passat GLX right now.
-How do you figure heavy stereo? I figure some new tweeters, a pair of 12's in the back... Maybe 100 pounds or so total... I might be a bit off, but not like two massive 15's or anything. I just want some good audio... I have read on here both stereos pretty much suck
-I realize that Im not buying a civic, im not an idiot. I will eventually add in a few performance mods/upgrades to the engine... but probably not for a few months (summertime).
-The leather stuff is high end quality leather that is in multiple cars... I have seen pictures on here with people that have it in their Evo... im suprised you havnt heard of it.

The cost of custom make moonroof/sunroof from $800-$1500. I see someone that have some problem after they install aftermarket sunroof. I prefer to get the SSL from Mitsubishi ,because the structure of the car may be different (The one come with moonroof may add more reinforce than the one don't have it). You can always replace the leather later when you stock one wear out or show old. Get the stereo done first if you must have. Just my .02.

Thats a ton of weight your adding to your car. Those 2 12s as you say will kill the mods you add to your car.. You would be adding about 130 in additional weight, thats like a whole nother person sitting in your car, and your car will be significantly slower.
Just get a Licoln or a maxima, if you want all that luxuries stuff, this is a evo, not a bmw.
But, when I get my evo, I am upgrading sound, but I am going to get 2 pair of component speakers and a head unit. And that should be enough for my sound needs. Without all that extra weight. Thats what you should do.
OR YOU COULD JUST GET SSL!!!

Get the SSL. There is a different roof brace for cars that have a moonroof to provide clearance for the hole, so if you try to go aftermarket, you'll find a nice brace right where the moonroof should go. And be aware that the RS and MR models have an aluminum roof, so no moonroof for those, period.

I beat this issue to death in the following two threads. You will find some great comments in them:

I am absolutely delighted that I got the SSL. An MR would have cost almost the same, but I did not want to give up the sunroof, stereo or leather. For me, the SSL is the best Evo I could buy.

It sounds like you should stay in a Passat, but that's just my opinion - don't take offense.

It adds far more than 35lbs. I have no idea where you got that number, because it wasn't from the "factory specifications." It's closer to 75, but that's not even the point. We were talking about ADDING all his extra stereo equipment, not complaining about him getting an SSL.
