Pics of the old cabin air filter vs the enhanced version!

Amazing difference - the old one (as is in the FAQ) is very porous and just silly looking.

New (MUCH thicker, and embedded with activated charcoal!)

Old vs new (old on the right)

Close-up of my nasty old one:

Install in my 04 VIII was a piece of cake - used the How-to.

Meh - I can't tell the difference. If you look at the FAQ/Install of the CAF, they use a 3M filter that is even tighter then this one, and without the charcoal.

I believe the '03 has the capability, but you have to remove a panel - see this howto:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...bin+air+filter

Should still work tho - the new part has the same part number.

Edit: Also make sure that if you have an 03 you get the self-tapping screws. Mine already had screws since it was an 04.

Ordered it from Tim over at Ray Laks Mitsubishi - http://www.mitsuaccessories.com/. Their prices include shipping. They got it here in 4 days.

What part number was the activated charcol filter? I followed the link and I could only find a cabin air filter for the Galant and the Endevor.... and it did not specify carbon impregnated or anything cool like that for either one. What one did you order?

Keith

Well - I just called him at 1-888-ray-laks and he found the part number - looking at my invoice, it's either mr398288 or mr552951. I ordered both the cabin air filter and an engine air filter at the same time so I unno which one it is. I think it's the first one - the mr398288. That may be their partnumber.

Been meaning to ask this forever, and searching didn't help: Does the Evo IX come with the better filter stock? TIA.

You might be right, the most "effective" filter is a material that allows nothing to get thru, like a sheet of metal; it's 100% efficient at allowing nothing to get through.
