What is this supposed to mean?
Just got off the phone with The Registrar of Imported Vehicles Canada.
You see, I live in Canada and intend to purchase an Evo VII (provided
it's not molested too much) from the U.S. when it comes out and import
it back to Canada for myself. Before I can even start planning for this
I needed to find out if the Evo is even admissible to Canada. The U.S.
Lancers and Mirages (1996-2001) are not. HOWEVER, (and this is where it
gets interesting) the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII is on the
Canadian Registrar list for import from the U.S. to Canada, and is
ADMISSIBLE to the country. HOW CAN THIS BE? Please someone correct me
if I'm wrong but, don't the specs of a vehicle have to be finalized
before they can make it onto any Registrar of Imported Vehicles list?
Does this mean that Mitsubishi have finalized the specs and if so, are
they currently sitting on the U.S. version of the Evo in order to first
see what Subaru does with the STI? Also does this mean Mitsubishi is
planning to include the Evo in it's Canadian line up when they launch
their dealerships sometime next year? What do the rest of you make of
this?

If Mitsubishi intends to bring out an EVO at the begining of 2003, I would sure hope they have the specs finalized. Ramping up a production line to manufacture even limited numbers is no small task. I would guess at least 75% of the parts used to assemble a car today are supplied by outside vendors that need to ordered in advance of production. Other critical assemblies such as engines, transmissions, differentials, turbos, ECU's, all need to be available in the required quantities to support a production line. Does anyone know if Mitsubishi has completed their EPA or crashesting requirements in the US?

I also just heard (dealership rumor) that the U.S. Evos will be assembled in the U.S. and they will go into production sometime in March. Being the source is from a Mitsubishi dealership manager I don't put much credit on this, but it would make sence in order to keep the price tag down. Maybe there is also something to "meanrick69's" post, of different pistons for more HP. It would be very easy to do while the car is being assembled, just use the RallyArt pistons. That would be cool!!! Aaaaaaaargh!!! The agony of suspense without REAL answers!

Lets prey they dont use different pistons! For sure that will mean they are lowering the compression for our ****ty US gasoline specs. Its one thing to raise the boost bact to the original level...it a whole other ball game to drop in a new set of pistons. Along with lower compression pistons would probably come a different ECU map and so on...

No it will not be made in america. Because the fact is that the Lancer we have now is imported from japan.
they would of announced that it would be made in america.
The only cars made in america under mitsubishi is Galant, Eclipse, Montero and now the upcoming Montero Sport.
