Question Today I had a revelation.

On Monday the judge gave me back my right to drive. Well, I've been planning for a while now to get a evo. So today I went out to go get my evo, well check them out atleast. I asked my friend if he wanted to come with me, and of coarse he said yes. Well my friend was more excited then I was, that I was getting a evo. While we were in the car, we got to talking.

THe convo went something like this:
Friend: Why you getting a evo?
ME: WTF, man you know how sick this car is

Friend: Hell yeah I know that, but whats your reason for getting it.
ME: Huh, I dont know, cuz I wanted it for ever.

Friend. Yeah, but you got this celica thats paid for.
Me: Yeah, but I got the money to buy the evo. You know Ive been saving for it.

Friend:Yeah I know that, but I just think its stupid.
(Now I am starting to get mad, and I think he noticed)
(But then he kind of set me straight)

Friend: I mean, who you trying to impress with this car, you dont race, you havent went to the drag once to race, only to watch. I know you, you wont even go to a track. I mean its stupid. Your the one that always says dont waste money on stupid stuff. What do you call a 30k car, when you have a paid for car. Not to mention your high insurence payment. ( INsurence for the evo would be 368 a month)

(Dam, he let me have it, I always tell my friends dont waste money of fast food and cloths, and stay on a budget)

ME: Whatever dude I am still getting the car. (Now its quiet, and I am thinknig about what he just said)
ME: Man, I want a new car, I am tired of having this 2001 celica gts automatic, u guys always say I drive a girls car. I want to drive stick and feel like I am actually drivign the car.

Convo over: Well that was the summary of the convo.

FRIEND: THEN GET SOMETHING CHEAP, THAT YOU CAN TRADE THE CELICA FOR AND THAT 2k AND BUY A CAR THAT IS PAID FOR WITH 14K.
(I had 2k cash for the down payment)
Thats when it hit me, dam why am I buying this car. I wont be able to get financed without my dad co-signing. I probably wont go to a track. I will have a big bill coming each month. I should just get a car that I can buy cash. And be done with it.

So, after 2 years of wanting the evo, I've decided not to get a evo.
I've decided I will get a Mustang Cobra 1999, I should be able to get one for under 14k.
But, if you guys know another car that is a good straight liner for under 14k let me know and not a camaro.

Welllll................. I told you my incredible REVELATION I HAD TODAY.
WAS THIS A GOOD OR BAD REVELATION?

Good decision, buying a new car is one of the worst investments there is. How ever that is an investment so many people make every day. Why? Because cars are so fun sometimes you just don't care if you can afford it or not, you just want it so much!!

But if you can be happy with your new non-evo car that is great, I haven't gotten an evo yet. I, like you, am still waiting. And I have had some second thoughts, because it will be around 50k once it get here(to Iceland). However as well as I know me, I know I will not be happy with the other car I would settle with. Do what you feel is right and can be happy with. my two ISK

Its a wise decision maybe at this moment but in your heart you will always want an EVO.

I say dont even buy that ford stick with the GTS and save more money and get the car you really want.

I dont drag race too much or race too much.. I go to the canyons once on awhile and have fun.. I just love the car and consider it a legend like supra and rx7.

Its fun owning an awesome car that can beat more expensive cars right out of the box.

Thumbs up

hey hows palmdale havent been out there in a few months since i moved from lancaster area to chicago. i miss it and will be visiting in a few months to see some friends and take a vacation. but anyways ur little revelation was correct, it actually had me second guessing my purchase yesterday of an MR. but i am 27 and make bookoo u know. so its been a long time coming, so my situation is a bit dif. but i like to see future evo owners making resposible decisions, mabee it keep them around a little longer. mabee u could get an older
240z or 300. well a mustang is cool i guess, there is just a million of them in palmdale and all the a holes drivethem thinkin they are all hard u know like from QH.
talk to ya later.

Best bit of advice I can get is to drive your '01 until it can't be driven anymore.

I have no clue why your license was revoked, but now that you've gotten it back I'm guessing you probably don't need some fast car.

Keep on saving your money. Save it for something you really will want down the road.

if you're going to get a use car anyways, why not a used Evo. you can find decent used evo for low $20k. an evo is going to be way more practical then any rwd muscle car.

If your worried about making payments every month and need your dad to cosign you may not be ready for an evo just yet. As everyone has reiterated before, the hidden costs of maintenance will get you.

Look for a decent mileage 02-03 WRX. You can find them for about 14K now. Not an Evo by any means, but it is a fun car.

Great post and very true. In all honesty for a DD that won't be raced in some way a EVO really is a aggravating car. It creaks, rattles, pulls, darts at highway speeds, revs to high on the interstate, and doesn't get good gas mileage, the interior is econobox cheap, many cars are much nicer if speed and handling arent' requirements.

Congratulations to making a very wise decision. Just be careful with that stang as a ex stang owner a few times over a 99 Cobra is a very mod friendly platform. Good luck dont' forget to register on svtperformance.com and modularfords.com.

Again good choice.

I had a Mustang that I traded in to get my Evo. I like the Evo much better. I have not been to the track at all yet, but that doesn't bother me. It is a goal of mine for the near future. I bought mine for the same reasons that this guy was going to. I had wanted one for a while and had the opportunity so I went with. Already owning a car that is paid off makes it a much tougher decision. I was was making payments on the Mustang as well as a motorcycle. I had sold the bike several months before I thought about getting the Evo. It was almost a no brainer for me. I wouldn't be spending anymore a month the I had before, so It came down to personal preference.
