Would you take electrical problems to the dealer or the race shop?

The following items don't work on my car:
Speedo & Tach lights
3rd brake light (tail brake lights work fine)
Yellow light part of the headlights (turn signals work fine)
Heater (it's not the cable)

I changed fuses to no avail. I know these items are not on the same circuit so I think it's a larger issue. I have an '03 with 64K on the dial and I am way past warranty. I will have to pay regardless of where I take it. Should I take it to a race shop like AMS or should I take it to the dealer? The dealer where I bought the car and had good relations was Cub Shaver, but they went belly up. I will have to take it to a new dealer and cross my fingers that I don't get bent over.

Please don't tell me to sell. I want to pay this off and have NO car payments for a while before I get a X.

From my experience, these are the biggest PITA problems to solve. I would try a dealer first with the understanding you don't want to pay them to start "guessing" whats wrong with it. In my experience, they will just start replacing part after part.

have you checked all fuses, including the ones under the hood?

speedo and tach lights might just need replacing. they tend to burn out rather quickly, because they are always on.

have you installed/upgraded any stereo equipment or anything that might be drawing too much load?

I'd go to the Dealer for this kind of problem.

They have the neccecary wiring diagrams and Mitsubishi tech hotline if they get stumped.

You probably have to pay an hour's worth labor to start.

Never know...they probably seen this problem before.

anything electrical, go to the dealers first. having electrical problems with my skyline and having to go to many tuning places without sucess, took it to nissan even though the car is imported and they fix the problem. wasnt the fused, it was the wiring near that needed to be replaced

If you feel you have a good and legitimate shot at having this covered under warranty, then by all means take advantage of it. If they refuse warranty work, I wouldn't give them $95 an hour or whatever they charge. We have all the factory manuals, Mut scan tools, and if anything, MORE directed knowledge at the Evolution in particular than anyone at a dealership.
