Launched my 04 VIII today... by accident...

I was pulling out of my development across the center median - stopped at the center to wait for traffic. It was ususually heavy and I saw a long line of cars in both lanes so I waited for a space, while looking over my right sholder, revved it to what I thought was 2k or so and then basically dropped the clutch.

The d@mn thing shot off like a rocket! I must have dropped the clutch at like 4-5k My 4-year old daughter was in her carseat in the back seat and she said "Whoooah!!! Do that again!!! What was that!!!"

Of course, I smelled a bit of deceased clutch material after that, but it was one helluva rush.

I'm pretty sure I lit up all 4 wheels at least for a second. It seemed like I had to almost immediately shift to 2nd.

The first time I really launched the car hard off the line I had someone else with me. We were both like damn, so fast off the line, all four tires spinning for a brief time.

Exactly. I mean - I had my daughter in her carseat in the back.

Ah the first launch. I remember my buddy laughing hysterically followed by "does your stomach feel wierd" to "dude roll your window down" to "can you pull over at this gas station real quick".

I have those "accidents" all the time too. Usually there is a Civic or Mustang in the other lane though.

I've only had my Evo for a couple months now, and the same things happened to me when I was trying to beat the traffic...I just revved without looking hoping to get in front of someone quickly, and it sure as hell did! It just rocketed and I let off fast since I got spooked! lol! Yeah, I'm a rookie!

The 2nd time, I launched it showing my buddy's brother the difference between AWD and FWD...but that was the only 2 launches thus far! I don't want to beat the hell out of it.

I did the same thing accidentally shortly after purchasing my evo except I was leaving a touchless car wash. Horsepower plus wet tires= wooohooo!!!! A little sideways action then pure acceleration! It was awesome! I still grin when I think about it
