Start out with cat-back exhaust. And then a flash tune.

Correct.

I'd also like to add, keep your stock intake and BOV. Both are fine.

Don't worry about the intake or BOV (Evo's do not have BOV, they have DV-Diverter valve) until you have atleast 400whp. You can get a cat-back just about anywhere in this forum, ebay, and many of the vendors on this site.

Indeed. Stay away from getting an intake or BOV. you won't really see any gains from an intake. if you MUST hear your Diverter valve, do away with the stock air box and put a cone filter adapter on it. Most people complain about the warmer air, but if you think about it, once that air is compressed by the turbo, it's so hot it doesn't really matter.

Like they said, exhaust and reflash.

I would think you wanna make it fast and not loud. I had a 65 Buick GS with no mufflers and a Dodge Cummins Turbodiesel with a 4" straight through Nielson truck muffler and a turndown pipe...that was loud.

Don't change your stock IX BOV! It is one of the best BOV's for the Evo. Keep your stock air filter setup. Get a 3" turboback exhaust and send your ECU out to be reflashed at Dynoflash, Turbotrix, or Jester.

Your Evolution IX is just that, a highly evolved automotive device, if you just start changing out parts you will battle the Darwinian theory. My advice is to read this forum for reference before even considering any parts purchases. But, first off....get rid of that friend who's giving you the lame advice.

you will see gains from an intake or even just the drop in. in my viii adding an intake and catback dropped 4 10th's off my time in the 1/4. also down here that is the only difference between me and another ix and he runs the 1/4 2 10ths faster than i do.... the intake allows the turbo to spool a little quicker. the stock air box they say is good up to so much horsepower, but you do see a nice gain from a less restrictive intake

Go about mods in a systematic fashion (stage 1, 2 etc.) based on what you plan to do with your car(track often, drag, or pure street), and what you can afford, NOT because you want to hear you BOV. This forum is loaded with info. Read thru it, it may take a few days to get up to speed. As mentioned multiple times, one of the most cost effective upgrades include a TBE, intake, MBC and a flash. If it aint broke dont fix it. Best to leave to DV alone. Good luck.

That is not true. Notice that Mitsu engineers put a cold air scoop on the car. They also did it on my Eclipse. The turbo does indeed heat the air, but the cooler the air is going in, the cooler the air is coming out. The turbo does not heat the air up to a static temperature no matter what, and likewise the intercooler does not drop the air to a specific cooler temperature no matter what. That's why a turbo car feels quicker on a cool crisp winter night then it does during a hot humid summer day.

This has to be an April Fool's joke. There's no way Edwin is really this dumb.
