Is this a good deal for an Escort 8500

A guy at work offered to sell me his Escort 8500 for $100. The thing is in perfect shape, my only concern is that it was bought in 2002. I don't know alot about radar detectors, but I would expect that several updated models have been developed since them to combat developing police radar technology. Any thoughts from people who know more than me?

Only one radar detector will ever be in my vehicle and its the Valentine One.

Think about it this way.... if it saves you ONCE..... its paid for itself. (Ticket + Insurance = V-1).

Mine has saved me dozens of times over the past 4 years. It has amazing range... tells you when the radar is ahead, behind, or to the side.... and picks up X, K, KA, and Laser.

Yes... a new one is $400. But the investment has paid for itself dozens of times over thus far.

Probably out of date but the Escort is a great radar det. I've had mine forever and it's made it's money back by saving my butt millions of times.

Choosing between an Valentine and an X50 is like choosing betwen a Lambo and a Ferrari. Both good detectors with different advantages.

in 2002 the x50 wasnt out...i dont think....if u have pop radar in ur area u want the x50....if u dont then it doesn't matter....find out what the cops use and go from there....in south fl they use pop radar so the x50 was needed....the valentine one does not have pop radar detection last i checked a month or so again....they are both equal...the passports upper hand is better laser detection maybe 5% better..no biggie...the valentines upper hand is it tells you where the signal comes from...who cares...if it goes off ya slam the brakes call it a day... i ultimately chose the passport because of its better looks and is smaller and sleeker looking

buy it for 100$....you can always put it on ebay to flip it for more money

cheers

they are just different. the x50 has a bigger range. IMO that is more important than to know from what direction the signal is coming from. I mean does it really matter? You slow down anyways!

V1 has saved my *** so many times it more than paid for itself in the first week I had it. Excelent range, tells you how many radars\lasers detected(only detector to do it), and the only time it didn't go off the statie was just sitting around(not shooting radar). I got a recomendation from a guy I work with to get it and I havn't regreted getting it yet.

Even if the x50 has more range.... how much more range do you need? I just drove to Las Vegas from Los Angeles a week ago and i would get warnings in the desert from some 7-10 miles away in flat areas and upwards to a mile away in heavy traffic urban areas.

IMO.... thats plenty.

Also, at least i know where to look when i have arrows showing where the bogey is. I'd rather know where he is with a little less range than have no idea if the cop is ahead or behind me trying to sneak up on me.
