Are 03's really that bad?
beads???....what are those??...when i put my exhaust on it was a simple bolt on affair...i was thinkin to remove the hanger nearest to the canister, but i don't know how low it would sit or how much it would be bouncin around while i'm on the road...but yea its no big deal to fix it...its not even that bad, its only barely touchin it....the bumper ain't even burnt at all...
i love my 03 evo, i have 48k on mine and its daily driven. one of the main things thats better about the 03 compared to every other year is the fact that the 03's got almost every option, there was no SSL bull**** u got the HID's and the moonroof, the only otpions that htey didnt come with were the leather seats. i agree with what someone posted earlier in this thread- the reason it seems that the 03's are the evos not to buy is because we as comsumers had to figure out what fluids and mods work and what fluids and mods dont work, we tested the limits of what evos can do with 03's because they were the first ones that we cold buy. my .02

Sorry its a welding term. Its another way of saying a weld. You know droping Dimes. But get it welded. It will get worse.
haha...droppin dimes...got it....+1 to rick...everyone was freakin on with the '03 since it was new and no one knew what was goin on....but now everyone is comfortable...it helps to know what ur car does, its probs and know how to fix it...don't jus sit there and complain about it...i think most people don't even know that basics on mechanics but still fix up there cars...
I have 33k miles on my 03' and it's been VERY good to me!
No faded brembo calipers
No faded spoiler
No P0300 code
No blown xfer case
The only thing I changed because it wore out due to increased hp was the clutch. And that was probably because I slip it too long when I launch the car.
I also have all (gauge pak, MR rims, sport brake pedals, carbon fiber hand brake, vortex generator, etc.) the MR options on my car except the shocks, ACD, and 6spd.
I will not spend $5k-$7k for MIVEC w/an upgraded turbo wheel for a 30-40awhp increase with basic bolt-ons. It just doesn't make economical sense to me when that money could be spent elsewhere.

The problem with used Evos (any year) isn't normally the car it's the (previous) owner.
I've seen quite a few '03 that were "put back to stock" when they were sold ... a lot of times in a very half-a$$ed manner. Take a look at some of the engine bay pics that you see of Evos on eBay and pay attention to how a lot of times small things are missing (heatshield, hose tie-downs, clips, etc.) I've seen the same thing at local dealers. How about cars that have been returned to stock ... except for the flash that was never removed, etc., etc.
The fact of the matter is that most Evos get driven hard. And most Evo owners who maintain their cars love them to death and still own them. However, more than a few folks have taken unwise mod paths or have beaten their car to within an inch of its life and subsequently decide to dump it on an unsuspecting public.
That's why I always say "USE EXTREME CAUTION" when considering a used Evo (any year). There are a lot of idiots out there - no need to get suckered by them.

I bought my car used 12000 miles. A week later I replaced the clutch, not my fault, Month later I had to replace the Tranny, also not my fault. Lol crazyness. Buying used cars is not a good idea. And I would love to work on my car in all cases but its hard to pull clutches, trannys, and what not with out a lift ya know...
