Not so much so that it's going to feel like regular WRX in any way - or an Evo.

Cheers,

I will second what Paul has said. I know someone that is driving a test mule and they say it handles nothing like his old WRX at all. In fact he said it actually took him some time to get used to it. It takes a different approach to take this car to the limit. If you drive it like a wrx your going to miss out.

I would look at it this way.....you have to pick the car that complements your driving style. I have spent a good amount of time behind the wheel of both an STI and an EVO. What I like about the EVO is the confidence on a curvy road.....it doesn't feel like you can ever out drive this car, on the other hand the STI is an *** kicker and a lot of fun when you don’t mind the car being a little loose. I decided myself to go with the EVO because I miss that feeling of confidence behind the wheel, I never felt as good in an STI or in my old WRX. Yes the STI will have more HP and lots more low end punch but that doesn't make it the better car. I (along with 95% of the people on this board) am not a professional race car driver that will push ether of these cars to the point were this makes a very big difference, and if I didn’t it wouldn’t matter because I don’t get paid to drive fast. If you are big into 1/4 mile times and beating some at the light I would lean towards and STI (because I don’t want the EVO to be one of those cars). This might not help but it is something to think about.

Also I would advise finding a friend and talking him into buying what ever you are not going to buy. I want to have some fun in the new Subbie so I have a buddy all pumped up to get one.

Stallion, If you can't get a test drive from a dealership, see if you can get a ride from a member of this board that lives local to you in Tampa.

I really think this is the only way you will be able to decide.

You know, this thing is limited production..........and they are selling like hotcakes. I think a $5,000 mark-up is appropriate for the current market.

I'm not really sure, but I think is making enough Evo's to be sold, and that there will be more than 6000 made. so maybe in the end its not just limited production. it goes the same for the STi. subbie will make enough to be sold, and will not undermake the STi's.

Wrong. I think we need to put up somewhere a banner saying that the Evo is a limited production car. Limited means, limited. Enough said. 4500-5000 cars was the last estimate and I hear that there are already 1500 in the US.

i am going with the evo for confidence and room in the back seat. i have a 9 month old so we know i need it. i also like the firm ride. not at all harsh for me. the maxima i own is slammed with coilovers and KYBs and that is harsh with no travel. but the evo actually felt beter and not as harsh(little more body roll than i would like but confidence inspiring grip)

What you describe is the tricky part of te EVO. It gives you confidense until it goes. And it will go hard. The STI has a better early warning system......... Much safer for the averge driver.

I own both an EVO VI and a STI VII. I personally feel more confident going around a corner in a STI than in an EVO (even at the same high speeds). The understeer gives you a feel of security. With the EVO I never know if I make it (though it has never let me down) or if I lose it (in that cas it will be too late to correct).

Regards,

Although apparently that understeer argument can't be used with the USDM STI due to its' DCCD. Its handling characteristics wouldn't be anything like the STi you drive.

I was told by a mitsu dealer that they are making roughly 5000 the first year, 7000 the second year then they are done. This is what i was told. also, anyone in the central AZ area? (scottsdale, phoenix, mesa, etc.)

Mitsubishi may be slow to bring a competing product to the US (delay of evo after release of wrx) but they arent stupid. If the STi isnt limited production, the Evo wont be either. If you think MMC is going to limit the production of their only competing product while Subaru sells STis left and right, youre only fooling yourself.

The STi is limited production - last number I heard is 5000 cars.

The Evo is limited based on how much the factory can handle.

Hey guys, new here. BTW, great site with mucho info.

Pretend you're a salesperson and not a diehard EVO fan. I'm in the market for either the EVO and the STi. Sale me on the EVO by proving to me that it's worth sacrificing the 30+ horsepower housed by the STi.

Remember, you're a salesperson, so your "opinions" don't really count, just stone hard facts.

Thanks guys.
First, you can be driving an EVO today.

Second, pretend you read the stuff posted on this forum and we won't have to play make believe salesman!

Third, if you still don't get it...just keep waiting for an STi.
