Question Newbie who needs to be sold on the EVO.

Hey guys, new here. BTW, great site with mucho info.

Pretend you're a salesperson and not a diehard EVO fan. I'm in the market for either the EVO and the STi. Sale me on the EVO by proving to me that it's worth sacrificing the 30+ horsepower housed by the STi.

Remember, you're a salesperson, so your "opinions" don't really count, just stone hard facts.

Thanks guys.

i dont like sales persons. i like test driving the car and making my own decision because thats the ONLY way to know a car.

if you have any interest in the subaru then it would be worth the wait - you shouldnt be impartial to either car - then you reallly wouldnt like either of the 2 very much. make your own judegements and decisions.... personally i dont see how poeple can be choosing between these 2 cars as if it was a coin toss. they are very different with very different ideas as to their purpose. one is meant to go offroad and one is meant for strictly road. that should give you an idea of how different they are right off thet bat. dont act like they are the same car, with just different hp ratings.

to start with - which do you think looks better- thats the only concrete comparison to be made at this point. after that performance wise, some things that may be different on the 2 mentioned cars are - evo's quicker steering and evo's usually firmer suspension. evo's seating position and ergonomics feel slightly better to me.

but dont take my word for it, please go and drive both cars

Well, i'll start by saying...

You know, this thing is limited production..........and they are selling like hotcakes. I think a $5,000 mark-up is appropriate for the current market.

Im not going to try and sell you on the Evo. But i will welcome you to the show. Youve probably come across one of the best resources for Mitsubishi on the web.

ADM, I would tend to agree, but all I've seen is EVO vs. STi. They are in direct competion aren't they? It's almost like Mustang vs. Camaro. I will take your advice and drive them both.

All I wanted was some pro/con input from the EVO guys that I could weigh against the pros and cons of the STi.

If one is meant for the dirt, why are they sold to the private population?

Can you list what you would like out of either of the cars?

Are you looking for pure power, a balance of everything, something for family use, etc. Also, if someone said you had to pick one right now, what would you choose and why?

Thanks,

Mark

..or for long trips with twisty roads, the STi.

Mark, good question. The car will be daily driven. I may carry more than one passenger from time to time. Yes, it will serve as a "family" car as the time draws near. Yes, power is important. I never want to be in my purchased EVO saying "I wish I had the STi" or vice versa.

I was leaning toward the STi at first because of my fondness of the previous WRX. Then the EVO came along and gave me "options"

If I had to choose one right now, it probably would be the STi since I've driven a WRX and know its tendencies, BUT I plan on test driving an EVO as soon as I can.

So much for test driving. I just came away from my local Mitsu dealer. "Sorry, no test driving until papers signed."

They just sold one for $5000 over MSRP....I can wait.

Drive both cars, the EVO will speak for itself.
Both cars are amazing and I'm sure you would be happy in either machine. For me a big factor was looks. The power advantage can easily be made up and still keep the EVO under the STi price.

I think it really comes down to:
1.) which looks better to YOU?

2.) which do YOU think drives/handles better? I don't mean which pulls a better skidpad, but which feels better to your taste. This may be the biggest difference between the two.

Actually, you'll prefer an Evo then - it exhibits the tendencies of the WRX setup far more than the STi does. The STi exhibits a totally different set of tendencies than people can imagine right now. It's tendency for throttle-controlled RWD action alone is completely different from the WRX (or Evo).

Cheers,

Paul Hansen

Doesn't the DCCD allow you to change the handling personality of the STI? Ie- lock the differential and what not?
