"Okay, here's the scoop on the Evo...
You are Required to change the oil EVERY 1,500 miles!!!
Now check this out!!!
PLUS you also have to rotate the tires EVERY 1,000 miles!!!!
Holy Cat Crap Batman!!!
Does that maint. scheduel suck or what.?.
Just do the math...
12,000 miles/year(if you only drive the second coolest car in the country that much)
An oil change costs let say $20 and a tire rotation costs $15.
12,000 / 1,500 = 8 * $20 = $160 for oil.
12,000 / 1,000 = 12 * $15 = $180 for rotations.
$160 + $180 = $340 per/year in maint.!
That's $1,700 over five years that will make up for the cost difference people thought they were getting for buying the Evo! "

recommends oil changes and tire rotations every 5k under normal conditions and every 3.75k under extreme driving conditions. (I don't think that there are many EVO drivers who will not meet the criteria for extreme driving conditions.)
Historically, I would do 3k changes with premium blends and 5k with full synthetic stock.
Given the additional turbo lubrication requirement and the associated increase in oil temperatures encountered within the turbo, I will opt for the 3k interval with full synthetic.
As Claudius stated, 3k for oil change interval is the norm for folks who want to ensure maximum protection. Tires rotations at 3k or after track days seems like a reasonable schedule for me.

Maybe I drive too hard
High performance cars need proper care. You better be willing to put in some extra time and money if you want to use the car like it ought to be used.

You get free oil changes according to the Mitsubishi schedule I guess?
I didnt mean to say rotate tires every 3000 miles, but to change the oil (and filter) every 3000 miles. A good idea seems to be an engine flush as well, as pointed out by our friend Mycroft (who hangs around in the Suspension setup at the moment). That would be driving about 30 miles with very thin oil and a fine filtering oil filter, no boost, little revs, and then change back to regular oil.
