i installed headers on my IX MR and i see alot of heat waves coming out the vent of the hood. anyone know if this normal? will it ruin the paint?

 

yeah, this is normal even when its stock.

 

I took the luvered vent cover out to allow for better air circulation. Works wonders

 

yea but it's more that stock i thought that the ceramic coating i put on them would help

 

It helps but, the material is probably alot thinner than the factory cast manifold therefore, radiates more heat.

 

you're still gonna have heat sources underhood besides your manifold, so you'll still get heatwaves even with ceramic coating. and ceramic coated manifolds still get very hot, i wouldn't touch it or anything or you'll have a skin coated manifold!

 

Yes, that is normal.

 

And the other obvious thing is you probably don't have the heatshield on there any more either which is definitely going to let more heat radiate up and out.

 

yes its normal and did you say it was a new manifold? because it might just be burning off the impurities and **** so thats y it might be a little bit more then normal for a bit

 

does taking the vent cover off have any side effects like water getting on the air filter or anything?

 

no it just makes ur valve cover nasty and maybe gets your manifold a little more wet

 

cool, cause some of the paint if comming off my vent cover, starting to look weird

 

ya that happens you can just take it out and repaint it with high heat paint/enamel from any auto store like napa

 

Lol someone once thought that my engine was on fire because of the heat waves coming out from the hood. And that was with a stock mani.

 

Well... it doesn't rain here much in SoCal so i really don't worry to much about the engine getting crud on it. Usually after a wash i wipe down the red valve cover with the damp rag after drying the entire car to make it shiny.

The other downside is that it probably gets the exhaust manifold a little more wet and causes rust. I took a copper brush to my exhaust manifold to remove the rust that came on it from the factory.
