Just got off the phone with So cal mitsu dealer!

Hey guys I looked into the $32,999 price for an evo MR @ south coast mitsubishi. I emailed the dealer and the manager called me back and confirmed that price is legit. My Question is do California Evo's have smog controls that rob horsepower? Because I live on the east coast. In other words are the east coast cars exactly the same as the west coast cars where emissions are concerned , or do they have less horspower because of California's strict smog laws, thanks for your replies!

All Evos are detuned to the point that they pass the most restrict emissions laws of every state. That's how all cars are. They don't tune them differently for different states, so you're fine.

Wouldn't every factory made car for the US be 50 state legal?

There used to be Cali-spec and Fed (46-48 state) spec cars but most cars are 50 state now.

the only reason cali evo's make less power is the stock ecu pulling timing and/or boost due to the crappy 91 octane liquid cali calls gas. take that same car and fill it with 93 and the ecu will allow it to run a little more aggressively. but to answer your question, no, same car, same power, as long as you use same gas.

Ha ha, no. I sell cars for a living. Got to hand it to Bob, though - he has some hotties on that show.

Thanks again for your responses guys, I'm going to present the sc mitsu dealership flyer to my dealership here to see if he will meet the price $32,999 for the MR, if he cant even come close i'm gonna buy the car in Cali and have it shipped back to the east coast. even with the shipping costs i will save 5k going out west then buying it over here on the east coast, and if i fly out and drive it back i will save even more....
