Talking I wigged out, everyone was right.

Yeah, it was me blowin up the boards with posts last night because I thought my engine "blew". I towed it to Dyno4mance today, and they had it fixed in no time. Everyone here was right. It was my LICP clamps. They also replaced my spark plugs. What a relief ! I've never heard any car make that loud of a "pop", so of course it freaked me out. I just want to say thanks to everybody for the quick responses and help. If it weren't for EvoM and Dyno4mance, I would be in dead water with this car. But as long as they are both around, I'm gonna have fun driving my Evo! You live, you learn.....

Sweet, good to hear! Same thing has happened to me a few times, but on the upper pipe and not the lower like you. Once was on the freeway, in the middle lane, with tons of traffic, so I couldn't move over before she completely stopped. Had people giving me the finger left and right because I was stopped in the middle lane, and no one would let me over. Finally chugged out of the way, and found the infamous intercooler pipe had blown off. Had to get a new clamp for it too, because it wouldn't tighten enough, and would blow off with any boost. Get some t-bolt clamps! That's one of the next things on my list.

I've popped my upper IC pipe at the throttle body more times than I care to admit. Sucks.

Dyno4mance rocks!

Happened to me after I put on my UICP. Went out for a test drive at around 9pm. Drove around the neighborhood with no problems. Gave her a little gas and no problems... so I decided to pull on the freeway and gave it a little more gas... BAM! Went Holy crap... then I think I blew something up, powers gone, I KNOW I blew something up... Did I drop a wrench down the IC pipe? What IC pipe... it probably just popped off, no big deal... I'll just hop out and... what kind of dumbass goes for a test drive at 9pm and doesn't bring any tools or a flashlite...

All that between when it popped and when I came to a stop on the side of the freeway.. thank god for cell phones.

If he wants to post a comment about what was wrong, he can post a new thread, but we ALL know what the problem is... he blew an intercooler piping off.

Tow was $100 bucks. 1 hour in labor. He replaced three clamps and spark plugs. So, no big deal. If it ever happens again, I could handle the UICP coming off, but if its LICP I'd rather a pro do it. Gives me a piece of mind.

True, but when this first happened to me I wasn't even on EvoM yet, and I didn't know the commonality of this problem. Just popped my hood and looked around. Basically figured it out myself. Sometimes you just have to look, go figure.
