well, mine got sorta ripped and parts are hanging down.

my question is this, is it neccessary that it be on there? could i just take it off and be fine?

i am worried about the heat from the turbo possibly melting the paint or discoloring it on top of the hood.

Federal emissions law requires it for fire retardation. It's sole purpose is to smother the flames in case of an engine fire. It also adds 10 wheel hp

You may get slight burning marks on the inside of your hood. My friend with a eclipse gets burn marks on his but nothing major.
