just bought a GSR at lunch

I'm pretty tickled.

The handling and steering continue to really impress me.

But what's up with breaking a motor in on Mobil1? I've never heard of breaking in a motor on anything but dino oil. I always thought that synthetic was just too slippery and wouldn't allow the rings to seat properly...

I'm too lazy to RTFM, so I am going to follow the advice here on break-in = boost all you want, but don't exceed 5k rpm if poss for 500 miles, after that anything goes. Pleaselet me know if that is not the case.

I did actually look at TFM, but it was full of how to open the trunk, and how to turn the AC on and such. I put it away pretty quick...

Now I need to sell the Subaru...

i've alwyas broken in new motors by running them through the entire rom range a varying loads just not for exteneded periods of time. Never had any ill effects and all my cars have made waesom power, The new moly rings are 1000 better than the old ones and won't score the cylinders.

lol.. So was it a toss up between a burger and a GSR for lunch? The steering is very go-kartish. A lot of people have done dino oil breakins on the evo. I'd take it easy as far as not doing WOT for the first 500 miles either. Partial throttle will still get you plenty of boost. But you already see that.

The manual is at least more technical than most. Those little exclaimations are fun to read.

I gotta get my damn IX already, I still have to wait 3 months for the SE...oh well better to save up more for the downpayment then take a bigger hit on payments every month. I love the smell of brand new cars, I will never roll down my windows.

LOL! No, I had been kicking the idea around for a little bit (posted a couple questions here, did some reading up here...)

I want a better explanation of the variable center diff... which setting makes it oversteer under power? Why doesn't it say that in the manual???

I don't think would want to tell you how to oversteer.

The tarmac setting will do it for you, and will actually work fine for most driving situations unless you are going WOT through corners.

Here are your answers to the ACD:

You can't manually control the torque split though.

I'd say it's all personal preference. I have noticed that the gravel setting is a bit more neutral when it starts to break loose, but I like tarmac for most everything. I haven't actually tried the snow setting in snow yet. I would imagine that it would allow more understeer(?).

awesome link, thanks.

I too suffered under the common misconception that the ACD controlled torque split I was really hoping it did, actually...
