Can a dealer do this?
Can a dealer do this?
Ok, I was at my Mitsu dealer yesterday to pick up my plates, and I thought I would ask the service dept. guy a question about mods and warranty.
Me: Hello, I have a quick question about evo warranty.
Him: ok
Me: If I put on different springs on my car, that are a bit stiffer and about an inch lower, what warranty would it void.
Him: everything
Me: what you mean everything? Engine, drivetrain etc.
Him: Yup
Me: How?
Him: BECAUSE
And HE walked away, leaving me stand there like an idiot :
Man he got me so p!ssed off, he wouldn't even have a conversation with me. They are all nice and kiss your *** when you are about to buy a car, but after you do, they don't give a f@ck.
But anyways, can the dealer void the entire warranty for putting on different springs?

Well the thing is, when I got back in my car, there was a paper/survey on my seat, and apperantly they gave themselves a 100% satisfaction on behalf of me, that was another thing that pissed me, how are you gonna fill out a survey, that I was soppose to fill out.

It would only void your warranty on suspension components but not the rest of the warranty. You might want to try a different dealer for any kind of warranty work since this one might be headache to deal with.

In sum, under federal law, the warranty will not cover any problems CAUSED by your modifications, but continues to apply to the remainder of the car. Pretty simple, really, and eminently logical.
And by the way, this is not a question of "voiding" the warranty; it's simply a matter of what the warranty covers.
It's amazing how many dealers don't get these simple concepts. As a lawyer who's represented auto manufacturers, I have no problem explaining it to service reps. I actually kind of enjoy it.

If you manage to force them to accept the warranty they'll probably take a few months "trying to replicate the problem" or "ordering parts". They don't just give in and do it for you all nicely. They'll find some way to screw you since you pissed them off.
