I don't know yet. I will find out here by Thursday/Friday. From what I have read it is near close to stock by a couple hundred rpm. We will see....

So just bolting on a IX stock turbo is a decent upgrade then huh?? Just need the XI Outlet pipe, Oil and Water lines?

That isnt a stock IX turbo....its a 20g-9. It has a bigger compressor wheel than the stock 16g. People have used the stock VIII oil and water lines with a little creativity to bolt the IX turbo on.

If you arent running super high boost you might as well just upgrade to a 10.5 hotside, ported manifold and O2.

Its the stock IX turbo with an upgraded wheel? He is saying that just by upgrading to a regular IX without the 20g wheel it will be a nice increase, which it will....bolting on a 10.5 hotside, ported manifold and 02 to an VIII turbo will not yield the same power as just bolting on the IX turbo to an VIII....If you put the 20g IX and a 16g IX together in a picture the difference would hardly be noticeable to the naked eye, but the performance would tell the tale.....Either way it still a great upgrade for the VIII, im always on the lookout for a good used IX turbo, especially since the VIII turbo has went 10's....The IX turbo alone would be an improvement (and its still considered stock and a factory piece), and in theory to be the main reason the IX is so responsive to minimal mods.....So running high boost has nothing to do with upgrading to the stock IX....

So do you have evidence to back this theory? I have personally seen Evos gain 15-20whp with just those mods.

Did you ever consider the MIVEC and advanced ECU might have alot to do with the IX being so responsive to minimal mods?

On a stock evo I doubt porting will do all that much, it helps but 15-20whp would be more realistic on a modded evo with say an exhaust, cams, etc. Look at the difference of turbine housings: the 03-04 had the 9.8 housing, the 05's had a 10.5 housing and the gains between were only 5hp? 05 were bumped to 276 while the 03-04 were 271 I believe....The IX turbo I could see being a sure fire bolt-on mod that would give a definite gain stock for stock....

Al had one write up on the IX turbo on an VIII with bolt-ons and I believe it had a gain of around 30whp on top of the bolt on mods? So to me that kind of shows that you could expect a decent gain over stock, which the IX seems to make 30-40whp more than the VIII's with similar mods...The IX by far will always hand it to the VIII stock for stock but im willing to bet a IX turbo on a stock VIII could close that gap....

And yes im sure those other peices of the IX helps also but I would love to see an actual test to see what the IX turbo would add onto a stock VIII, as I stated its all "in theory".....A theory is 50/50

Please don't use the listed HP by Mitsu as a basis for your argument. We already know that there was much more than 5HP gain between the 03/04 and 05, then we know there was more than a 10HP gain between the 05 and 06. An 03/04 that addes a 10.5, ported mani, and o2 SHOULD gain 15-20whp pretty easily. However, going straight to a IX, which includes the 10.5 anyway should be an even bigger gain. Yes, the ECU, the MIVEC, and the coolant passages in the IX head allow for even more gains, but a stock IX turbo is definitely a nice upgrade for any 03/04...better than just a 10.5 although more expensive of course.

I, too, am on the lookout for a used IX turbo since I seem to have maxed out my stock 05 turbo here at 6000'.
