Needing help with the keys!

So here’s the deal, I bought my evo used and it only had one key. I called up and they want to charge me $150 for the key and they may charge me for the programming. I was wondering, could I just buy a blank key (no chip) and place the key I currently have next to the ignition??? Would this allow the car to read the chip and let the blank key work? And thanks to anyone that replies ahead of time!

You need atleast two keys to program. Keys should be 30 bucks or less

That would defeat the purpose of a chip key and some one stealing your car alot easier.

If you are the only driver, then save the money and try to make do with only one key.

If you're just looking to get a key to open the door in case you lock yourself out, then you should just be able to go to a hardware store and get the key copied. I ran up to the ACE hardware store and they copied mine no problem.

i think i got a key for under 30bux. The dealer charged me 50 to program it. 150 sounds steep.

The blank is made by ilco. They charged me less than $1.

The key number is: X224 MIT3

It should look like the key in the pic that I attached.
