Getting ready to install cams/

Getting Ready to install a set of 272 HKS cams, I was wondering if any one has any advice for me.

I will be using this tutorial for a reference to install them,
http://www.evomoto.com/tech_info.php...3_6&tech_id=18

Also is the timing belt tool necessary/ Do you know where to get it any cheaper?
http://www.evomoto.com/product_info.php?products_id=511

How many hours should I set aside for the install?

I will also be installing a 255lph fuel pump. Any suggestions on this.

Please post any problems you had during either installation that might help me avoid the same problem.

I might take pictures during the installation, so if you need a pic of any thing let me know.

Thanks for any advice

The timing tool is not needed if you want to take the timing belt completly off to change the cams out. Just ues a vise to press in the tensioner and then place a small drill bit or hex key in the hole. Make sure you don't have the balance shaft out of sequence if you take the belt off. I usually line up all the markes on everything with the cams dowel pins up. Then remove the belt. There are other instuctions on VFAQ.com for a 2G DSM which is the same thing. This may help, if you have someone who is knowledgable.

I used the timing belt tool when I did my cams, it makes the job alot easier. I also used the same directions that you are going to use, everything was pretty strait forward. Some people bleed the lifters and others don't, I decided to bleed them just to be on the safe side.

how do you bleed the lifters? Just wondering cause I heard that if you don't you will most likely be left with an annoying clicking noise

Have not done cams yet but if you have any mechanical skill the fuel pump should not take more than 30 min. Just make sure your tank is about empty. It lowers the chance of getting gas everyware.

Did my cams in about 2 1/2 hours with the same instructions. I say the tentioning tool makes it much easier though. The whole thing went really smooth.

As for the fule pump, peice of cake!

This is a great product and definitely wont break....you can get your money back for it by charging your buddies 10 bucks a piece to use it for their install. Ask any shop and they have broke at least 2 tensioners if they have done more than 50 installs. The evomoto tuturial is good.....the bleeding the lifters is 50/50 hit or miss. sometimes if you dont bleed them they tick, sometimes they dont.

Good luck with the install

Personally..300 bucks for an install is much worth it rather than the accidental "whoops i did it wrong" and the whole car going to sh@T=(.. Either way, good luck to you, I'd say a few hours if you take your time.

I used the same instructions on mine too.. Evomoto is a great tutorial for easy install.. I personally used a tensioner tool.. It went way smoother. I marked everything with the cams up.. This will definitely help out in the long run.
I would highly suggest bleeding the lifters.. Using a simple paper clip will do the trick. I would also suggest replacing fuel pump first, its super easy and just in case something gets screwed up, you can replace it, but still do the cams without being deadlined.. IMO!! good luck

I think bleeding the lifters has been a hit or miss situation.
Some have bled the lifters and still have ticking, and some don't
Some have not bled the lifters and have no ticking and some do.
