Trying to ID a noise.....(yes another one of those threads)

2006 MR, 8k miles.

When starting the car on occasion a 'click' is heard from what appears to be the steering column...you can feel it on the steering wheel too.

Same feeling / noise also occurs on occasion when coming to a complete stop at slow speeds but this time seems to happen outside of car.

Same feeling / noise also occurs on occasion when vehicle starts to move, about 2mph.

Same thing when moving 5-10mph and tapping the brakes softly.

Dealer claims to have checked wheel bearings, brakes, rotors etc. and found nothing wrong - of course thats what they would say.

I have cleaned / checked front sway bar and springs etc. everythings tight and aligned. No metal to metal rubbing on springs, swar bar is tight as are end links (although did not remove end links to test).

I do have a nice small scrape in the right side rotor, dealer says rocks get in there and its normal.

I did notice the passenger rotor will shake oh so slightly with pressure applied when wheel is off where the driver rotor has no such movement when pushed on.

Brake noise is normal squeal at low speed stuff, nothing out of the ordinary.

Let the guesses begin!

I think what u r experiencing it the famous suspension click noise. No one ever figured that out yet (i dont think). Does it happen when you turn or only when u come to a stop, or go?

both stop and go, turning has no effect on the noise.

Do you hear it with the radio up loud? if it goes away, then leave it loud. You are not in a bentley/Rolls, you will hear noises, don't get too excited about them, it is probably the car "settling' and is NORMAL!! Don't sweat it bro.

My main concern is that if its the brakes or suspension I dont want metal on metal wear to eventually cause a safety issue though. And you can feel it in the wheel when it happens so stereo trick only goes so far!

Time to install coil overs + better pads + lighter rotors. If that does not fix it I will go insane.

I haven't had a chance to look under the hood, but I'm thinking it's a fan control relay on the firewall. Also make sure your a/c is off.

i have a 2005 evo 8 and i think i had the same noise, but i found mine right away because i a freak about my car. this is instructions for the mechanically retarded, not saying you are but i will keep it simple. run your hand down the steering coloum shaft, just before you get to the floor you will find the joint where the steering coloum shaft and the lower steering coloum shaft meets. put your hand on that, pull up and down pretty hard.... hear anything??? if it is solid one more thing to check there should be a steering wheel position sensor right about that knuckle, put your hand on that and LIGHTLY kick that knuckle that you first shook. i found on my car it was the bolt in the knuckle was loose and an evo xi (not a MR) had a click/rattle and it was the Steering wheel position sensor. check those two... if not then sorry man, i am just trying to help.
