offer on the evo?

so here's the deal. i'm leavin for the desert next week and i want to buy an evo before i go. i'm going to go to the dealership tomorrow with my car and try to trade it. i have a 1999 honda prelude with a full turbo kit. i know that for dealers, mods don't mean much. the trade in value for my car is $8,200 and i have $6,000 into it. basically, i don't want to finance anymore than $30,000. i live in the panhandle of florida. do you guys think i have a chance in getting a deal, or do you think that they'll turn it down? i'm going for a GG IX.

part the prelude out and get back some of the money youve invested, put as much down as your able and get a iv rs or gsr.

i'm in the air force as an E-5. i'll be gone for 4 months. i would just bank all the money while i'm gone, but i need to pay off about $10,000 on my wifes engagement ring. or sell the ring and have a FAT payment on the IX

This is all assuming your in the military:

What i would do is throw a for sale sign on your car and try and sell it privately (let your parents/wife handle it), that way you wont take a huge loss on it. Then i would hold off and buy the EVO until AFTER you get back from the desert. then you have you 8K+ (from car)+ 8k (from desert trip) and just like that you have a 16 thousand $ down payment.

Looks like a solid plan to me

EDIT: i just read your post.........

Im E-3 airforce in the desert right now.. i go home in 9 days!!!!!

I privately sold my Gran Prix (and made WAYYY more off of it then the dealership wanted to give) and bought my EVO about 4 months before i left... now i have about 3500 in parts sitting in my dorm room wait to get installed when i get home. I only bought the parts because im compleatly debt free right now. i kinda wish i would have waited so that 8 grand would go into the car payments. but oh well.

If you want to get the most for your lude you need to part it out or wait til you get back to sell...
I'm sure there's plenty of EVO 9 SE are still around when you get back.

they will kill you on your modded car and not give you what you want. I lost money on my civic as far as the money I put into it(aftermarket) but now I have a evo so I don't care that I didn't get back what I put into it. I didn't have time to part the car out either.

Just wait. There will still be Evo's to be had and they will probably be more willing to move on price then. What's the rush in buying a car when you can't drive it for 4 months?

Just wait, I know it is easier said than done, but trust me 4 months is nothing compared to the 4+ years I waited. Good luck either way. BTW I am a Sergeant in the Army and I have been in Korea for the past 3 years, so that kinda helped me wait.

well i just got back from the dealer. i did end up trading the lude in and getting the GG IX. i did take a hit on the prelude, but it's worth it. i'm just going to pay off all my deby and use the rest of the money on the car and refinance when i get back. i worked a pretty good deal out. i only got 8gs for the lude, so that was only a grand toward the evo. ended up with about 32 grand otd with gap insurance. can't wait to get this think broke in. it's like a tease driving it right now. i'd post pics, but you guys know what it looks like. thanks for the comments.
