question for Al (dynoflash), Nick, Jarrod or David Buschur
This is Andrew from Sioux City, IA (yeah the guy that calls all the time for parts and questions, lol) I have an appt. on this Wednesday, May 3rd. to run my 05 Evo 8 on an All-wheel drive Dyno. I have your Stage 3 kit with the HKS 272 IN/EX, RACE front mount intercooler, the ARP head studs, Lower intercooler pipe, and Walbro 255LPH fuel pump. I have my MBC set to spike at 21-22psi and settle at 20.
The company is doing horse power at the wheels, 1/4 mile run, torque, and tuning if i want to do any.
My questions are:
1. What gas should i use the gas i use on the street on the gas at the track?
2. Is there anything I can adjust before they tune it?
3. Should I have them tune it since I have a mail in flash from dyno flash? or should i have them leave that alone?
4. And what is the stock horse power at the wheels for a 05 Evo8? I can only find the 271hp but i hear that is engine hp. and the dyno company goes by what is at the wheels.
5. What is the best PSI to set my MBC at with 93 octane pump gas and what about PSI for 97 octane (its called 103 octane but the company i by it from does real ratings) race gas?
6. Any tips or pointers?
Your info is appreciated

Very strange post.
1) How are they "tuning" you? Just because they have a dyno, it doesn't mean they can tune you. Do they having flashing software for Evos, or are you purchasing a piggyback/standalone that they will then tune for you? I don't think these people will be tuning you, honestly...
2) Power is always referred to at the wheels. Mitsu publishes crank HP numbers, but that's just an estimation really. 05s dyno 240-250 to the wheels on a Dynojet, but all dynos are different. You can't ask us what your 05 would have done stock, because we don't know the type of dyno or what stock Evos normally put down on that dyno. You'll have to ask the people at the shop...
3) Don't you already have your boost set for your mods? It should already be where it needs to be, which is around 21-22psi peak in 3rd gear. Keep it there.
4) You can put in 103 and crank the boost to 25psi if you want to on the dyno just to see the numbers, but that's up to you.

the company told me that they have all the software to tune an 05 Evo and they said they have already done a few. they reason why i ask what the stock horse power is at the wheels is because until today i thought it was 271. because i was told that by the dealer. and i specified to him..." what is the horse power at the engine and horse power at the wheels. he told me 271 hp at the wheels and around 340-350 at the engine.... now grant it, i did think that was really high, but never argued because at the time i didnt care if it had 15 hp, i bought it because it was incredibly safe and the stopping power is amazing, plus it handles like it is on rails... but after driving it...oh lets say...2 days, i loved the power and now im addicted.
Anyway the dyno company told me that the Evo 8 2005 is around 200 horse power at the wheels on the dyno and i jsut thought that was really low... but i guess i will just see what it will do.

Ok, so that means they have flashing software and know how to flash Evos. I wouldn't trust some new, unknown shop with my Evo tune, but that's up to you. If you do get a custom retune, don't get one on race gas unless you plan to run race gas 24/7.
Come on, man, how could you not really know that salesman was full of crap? You don't keep up with magazines or published power - nothing like that? The 05s were listed at 276, not even 271. 271 was the published power for 03/05s, but we got more power on the 05s. Regardless, that is at the crank. We dyno (which means at the wheels) in the low to mid 200s. If they say stock Evos do only 200whp on their dyno, then I don't think they know what they're talking about. Even on the most conservative Dyno Dynamics and Mustang Dynos, Evos rarely go as low as 200whp stock. Those that do are only weak 03/04s.
I think you have a TON of reading to do so that you understand the basics of stuff like this.

the thing that i love most about this website is all the smart a$$es... let me tell you, all i wanted was a straight forward answer but i got slammed on,lol.
anyway to your question dynoflash... i was just researching your website and seen that a mail in flash is around 200.00 but a custom flash is about 350.00, i just thought you may be able to tune it better if you actually have it on a dyno.
and to the smart a$$es. i have been working on cars for a long time but have never been involved with turbos or superchargers until i found the evo. i use to be a hugh chevy guy, had a chevy camaro... then i met my wife (filipino) and she had a civic... needless to say 8 years later i am a die hard import guy. and honestly, i researched the evo for about 6 months, but like i said i didnt care about the power when i bought it, i only asked the salesman cuz i was curious. i was most concerned on the braking, handling and over all safety of the vehicle. I read an artical that said " ..and that is why I would say the Evolution 8 is safer to drive than a SUV." they had amazing things to say about the handling, braking and over all safety fo the vehicle. speed was never a big thing since i found out i was having a kid. i just wanted them to be safe... well needless to say. i have to buy another one, lol. so now we have a 2 car garage with a CR-V, and 2 Evolution 8's. one is my daily driver and one is my cruiser when my kid isnt with me.
I was just trying to learn more about my car.... man you seem to get mad when people dont know anything about your car and under estimates it and then you get mad when someone wants to know more... make up your mind
