In the past week my radar detector has been going crazy... not with K or Ka signals but the Laser one. Usually I would go through tolls and the laser would go off but now I've been driving around my town and it goes off, each time It has happened I've been WOT, but I look and theres no pigs around.

Is there anything out there that can set it off besides a Lidar gun. It's even gone off when I was passing a slow *** car and I almost **** myself because of it, but again no cops to be found.

If anyone has one you know how loud the Laser ringing is and it scares the shiet outta me..

 

Illuminated street signs (the programmable ones that say things like Construction from 1/1 to 2/2) set my V1 off, as do the tail lights of some GM SUVs with LED tail lights, as do neon business signs.

My suggestion (tongue in cheek) - get a V1.

Anything will set them off but honestly, the x50 false alarms less than anything else ive seen. I purchased a cingular phone but quickly returned it as everytime it rang, it would set off my Bel. The airport also sets off laser. Hey, call there tech line and see if they'll help.

 

mine use to do that all the time, i just switched it to a higher fuse in my box instead of the cig and it stopped...lack of power kept setting mine off...

 

Please explain this theory. It honestly makes no sense but if you have a valid explanation for why you changed the power source, hten i am very interested in hearing. Thanks

 

Mine does that all the time.. as soon as a get on WOT! that **** goes off... i gotten so used to it.. i just mute it. it just started with a "requires service", which i dont know what the hell is going on. if you find the solution please let me know.

 

It will happen if you go by stores that have alarms I think. Well whenever I get close to grocery stores it goes off.

 

the laser warning shouldn't go off near stores. Maybe the x or k bands but not laser. Mine went through a phase when it was doing this too. It seemed to be intermittent though. Couldn't really ever tell when it was gonna. I'd just be cruising along and the laser warning would just randomly go off. There's probably something in some new cars that are causing them to go off...wonder if the distronic feature on mercedes would set it off

 

When my sister hits boost in her modded WRX the laser goes off on the 8500. Its weird because it is somehow reacting to the motor.

 

I may be picking up a harmonic frequency in the LASER band from your ignition or Turbo.

 

this happened to me only during cold weather. Each time I would go WOT it will scare the crap out of me since I didn't figure it out until the third time it happened but not it has stopped. I have the regular 8500 btw.

 

I have the same problem. So I phoned up the manufacturers. Apparently the shielding on the dectector loses its ability to shield. They said they would fix it for 60 bucks if I sent it to them, but I never bothered my ***.

It happens at WOT with me to, only on laser band.

That sux it happens because of WOT. Talk about worst time! I have a Escort Solo-2 and the laser has only gone off once (cop). If Escort is saying 60 bucks to repair, I would just save your money and get a V1. I would not trust that repair. I would get a V1 too if my stupid cig lighter was workin.
