Dude, figure it out your damn self-- all the necessary info on gear ratios is online. Prove to the world you aren't as big of a poser as everyone here knows you are. Also, learn how to type like a normal human being. Finally, if your parents have to buy you the Evo, you don't demonstrate the necessary discipline to drive one, IMHO.

Honestly, if you want to do lame-*** freeway racing (I bet you want some "NOSS" too), and yes, it is obvious what you want to do ("What RPM at 80 mph and what gear? Guys? Can I beat an RSX from a roll?"), you shouldn't use an AWD car. Since you won't have to worry about the launch, 2WD is better.

Don't get 2 fast or 2 furious-- you might hurt yourself.

Its not like there are ****in ground rules. Yes, I will agree you need to be an experienced driver to operate this thing well, but what about all the kids roamin around in M3's and WRX's and Supras and what not?? Its the same ****. He's just fortunate to have the oppurtinity to get it at such a young age. That's his good. People need to stop hassling everyone else. They just need HELP, thats what these f'n forums are for. Yes mother.

Actually, go ahead and drive like a maniac at illegal speeds putting yourself (and others) at risk-- at least you'll be reducing the surplus population. Evolution indeed...

WOOW you my friend are a hater!!
First of all yes i am 18 and I live in my parents household but that doesn not mean they are buying me the car. actually i am selling my cureent car and buying the EVO my self (cash i might add) however since i'm still there son and still live in there house and am on their insurance policy ad the car will be registered in their name. my parents have the final say. And just because i am young does not mean I'm stupid, i am an excellent driver and the Evo will by my third car. And fo those of you thinking taht i'm some spoiled kid. My first car the car I drove all through highschool was a '92 Buick Le Sabre. So chill Homie.

2nd. i don't know you, but don't ever reduce me to the level of some ricer kid in a civic with a 3 story wing.

3rd. i like the evo and like i said i really want one but like anyone else who takes car buying seriously, I try to get as much info on the car prior to my purchase thus reducing the amount of suprises i get that maybe would have affected my decision after i buy the car. i was only using the RSX-s as a comparision because i saw the video and my friend has a RSX-s with those same mods so its something that i'm familiar with and can use as a frame of refference. So dont hate just because i'm just doing doing some research on the car.
Finally, if there is someone local to me that might be willing to give me a ride in their Evo so i can answer some of these questions for myself, i would be much obliged.

Well, to answer his question... at 5th gear and 80 mph, the gauge reads about 3500 RPMs. I'm trying to remember if this was correct so it may not be accurate. (I'm extra careful and pay more attention to the road and the other cars on the freeway with this car! )

dunno .. as much as I'd like a boost controller and and nice fat downpipe .. the EVO VIII simply rocks ... 4th gear feels like 2nd in my 2g eclipse......

Forget about every little thing and enjoy a car easily worth twice its price...

(okay okay .. I'm guilty too .. I want mods)

This is the most rediculous thread ive read in a while. With a few very simle mods the top end of the evo can be increased dramaticly. 4th is very well geared and with so much mid band torque you aren't dropping below the peak power at all (unlike almost every honda power band ever ). In the rsx gearing is crucial to performance much like an s2000. Honda and vtec powerbands in particular only hold there peak for 500-1000 rpms at the end and need to be up there at all times in order to achieve good performance. Besides who wants another fwd when you you could easily aquire a WRX or even an Evo instead.

My 2 cents

If a lightly modded RSX smoked my EVO at ANY speed..

It would read like this:

FOR SALE

Well I just gotta say this past weekend I caught up with the chief tech for the SCCA club racing event that happened at NHIS this past weekend. He was very impressed with my Evo8 and we did some comparos since he just bought an RSX-S.

During the track tour (street cars allowed on the track, at highway speeds only, heh heh heh) he jumped behind me. But can't pass during track tour, so I had to slow way down for the people ahead of me so I could run the corners... so when it came time to run the corners... he just couldn't keep up... and we caught up to the ppl ahead of us soo fast we were both testing our ABS.

The RSX is a nice car, I considered getting one myself. But I must quote him, "yeah I bought the wrong car"... If that doesn't give you an ego boost you need to wake out of your coma.

At 75 the tach is about 3300RPM... perfectly at the beginning of the power curve. Top gear passing is just too easy: I'm at 90 from 75 on a whim. I have to hold the car back. Cops look at me and I don't know if they're envying the car or looking to pull me over.

The Evo8 looks fast and has the stones to prove it. I've gotten more thumbs up on this car than I had with my WS6 Ram Air. People must think I got shot out of a cannon when I come from the on-ramp onto the highway.

So some cars can go over 155MPH... that's no big deal for me here in New England. Just try to have those highway cars take an offramp at 70MPH when it's posted 30.

Oh and by the way on the track ride I had four people in the car and the RSX-S had two...

Hmm, thats interesting and encouraging news. So would you say that the perhps the weak spot in performance that is found in 4th gear at top end speeds is a result in a combination of the car's restricitve exahust and boost cut at 5k rpms? And if so, I assume a simple turbo-back and Boost controller set to hold a steady 19psi thorughtout the powerband would be all thats needed to make the car pull continuously to redline?

Helloooooooo!!??? McFly????!!!!!

The weak spot is about as noticable as your pecker in yer pants in 10 below weather..

Reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw once..

Something like, "Get in . Sit down, Shut Up, and ****in HANG ON.."
Or something like that.

Dude. Buy the EVO..TRUST ME. Fourth gear in this car IS NOT weak...You go from like 75 to 105 so fast, that you start hittin it just for fun!

No need to downshift! It just moves out!!
