Question about 4th Gear

Hello, this is my first offfical post on this forum. I am seriously thinking about purchasing an evo8, however I heard something that somewhat disturbed me aobut the car. First I saw a video where an evo8 raced an rsx-s with cai and hondata on the freeway. The RSX-s absolutly worked the evo8. I couldn't beleive it but when i spoke to some people inquiring about this i was told that the 4 and 5th gear but especially the 4th absolutely suck in the evo. this scared me because I have a 2002 vw gti vr6 and i kill rsx-s with tose mods on the freeway all day long. So based on that video i would be taking a serious step downward in highway performance which is one the most important things to me. From what I've read it seems that most of you guys who've taken your cars to the track end up at about the end of 4th gear in the quarter mile which seemed interesting for a 5spd especially since my 6spd only gets to the very begining of 4th in 1/4mile and the 5spd in the GTI only gets to the end of 3rd in the same distance. All i could conclude from this is that the 1st thru 3rd gears are strong accelleration gears which mean the car must pull like mad even form a roll but 4th and 5th were designed to allow the car to reach good top end speeds and allow maximum gas mileage which would expalin why the the acceleration in those gears is non-existant. Basically what i'm trying to ask you guys who own or have had the oppurtunity to drive an evo8 is, what does 4th and 5th gear feel like to you guys? What kind of RPMs are you at, at say 80mph and how does the acceleration in those gears compare to previous vehicles you guys have owned. And do you think performance and or gas mileage will improve if they bring the 6spd out.
Thanks Omeezy

That RSX-S vs. EVO 8 was posted on this forum as well... wasn't it a prank joke? Cuz hondata to an RSX-S adds i belive liek 30hp? and a cai adds liek 10hp for the RSX-S..? That was planned and it was a april fools joke as i thought.. but i could be wrong..

Guess I really didn't answer your question tho.. hehe..Sorry..

The Evo starts to lose power up top pretty dramatically compared to it's low end power. I do believe this is a restriction caused by the lower performance we get here in the states. It's very noticeable how the car dies off after 5000rpms. Whether or not the RSX beat it or not is irrelevant IMO. That was supposedly done at 145mph where the EVO was ahead of it before then. NOT many people race at 145mph on the freeway. From a stop or even a 40-60mph roll the Evo will hand the RSX it's *** any day of the week. Canyons or auto-x the Evo will destroy it. This car is amazing. If you want a car for top end get a used Supra. You can easily do over 180mph and that thing is definitely a freeway racer. Anything that can beat a Hayabusa on the freeway is friggin insane.

ok first of all for a supra to be able to outrun a hayabusa and do 180+ mph it takes some major mods and such at least a single turbo to beat a Busa. And if i were to get a supra and do all that to it, i would just stick with my dad's viper and eat up 95% of the supras around all day long. Now back tot video, that video was definately not done at speeds anwhere near 145mph you can tell just by looking at the video. I like low end punch but I don't want a car thats gonna be a ***** ont he freeway either and since i consider the rsx-s pretty much worthless ont he freeway, seeing one waste an evo kinda disturbs me. don't get me wrong i'm not knocking th evo or anything, I'm juist trying to get a full picture of the cars performance capabilities. Also if the 1st-3rd gears are realy as short as i think they may be, that means in the city i'm gonna be shifting like every 5 seconds.Again can anyone comment on this?

Regardless of the reduced boost at the top of the tach there is no way an EVo would loose to an RSX with only minor mods period.

You're being naive and don't deserve to drive an Evo. First off, give me a Supra over your Viper any day and I'll make it eat rubber chunks. A Supra can do 180 mph bone STOCK! The only thing keeping it from doing so is the limiter which consequently is removed via the track fuse. Secondly with less than $1000 you can see Vipers in your rear view mirror. Supras are freeway beasts. Only reason they don't fare as well in the 1/4 is because it's hard as hell to hook up 1st - 3rd gear.

Now as for the RSX, it's modified and it has longer gearing by my guess. Therefor at the 140+mph mark it very well may inch away from the Evo. This has already been discussed before and I didn't believe it either. But I stand corrected after watching a professional test drive of the Evo doing 140+ on a cd that came with a magazine I bought. Everything on the road does in fact look very slow when on film. If you're not a believer in the Evo find someone near you to give you a ride. It'll take a week to crack the smile off your face. Every magazine and owner have tremendous praise for this car so why are you having such a hard time believing it?

Ok regarding the supra viper thing, i was not aware that the supra at 330hp stock could do 180mph. If this is in fact true i stand corrected. However MY viper which i migh ad is not stock either will rape most supras out there and I'd bet my current car on that one.

Now as fars the evo supra thing, i want to get an evo badly and i don't want to beleive what I saw int he video whiuch is why I came asking you guys what the deal was. and from what i see its seems that its a combination of boost cut after 5k rpm and real high gearing in 4th and 5th. I really would like to drive or rid eion someone ones car to see for myself how it feels and suck so i can make a more informed decision aboutcar. Anothing thing I'm thinking of doing is just waiting till later in the year like the second half to see itf Mitsu decides to make any revisions to better comptet with the sti i.e. 6spd tranny and or 30hp boost which i know is much. I'm probally gonna be better off getting the car now since if they boost the hp to a even 300hp its gonna be signifigantly harder to convince my parents to allow me to get the car. But basically i just wanna get a total picture of the cars feel, ride and capabilities. if anyone in my area is willing to take me for a ride in their car that would be beautiful.
thanks

lol Boosted, that was a ****in funny *** post .

The Evo is very restricted. IF u spend $1k and get , say a catback/downpipe, boost controller, you'll be set...The Evo has very strong capabilities of running high 12's w/ little money. Trust me, that son of a ***** is fast. If i were you, i'd try to get some1 to get you a ride in it so u can feel it for yourself u know?? From there, you can decide on whether or not its the right car for u
