Looks more like a newer Galant VR4...not the early 90's style we had here in the US

Considering heat travels upwards .... engine... upwards... not a good idea.

Second problem.... lots of air hits the front of the vehicle.... not much at all hits the top of the engine bay (And what does it very hot).

Actually...the more I look at it...it might be the Pajero Evolution 4x4...but I would think the engine would be front to back...not side to side.

i dont see how it could work with that kind of setup if it was a top mount.

for exmaple this would work and clearly we all know it does....

TMICs suck for an Evo application. Total downgrade in performance.

TMIC is great for rally racing over different terrain (mud, snow, gravel, and so on), because it is out of the way. The FMIC will take considerable amount of damage in these condition, and have a higher chance of failing. Especially, when they come up on slower traffic, kicking up crap into the front of their car.

You can totally tell, the STI was designed as a rally car, to be driven in gravel conditions. While the Evo is, without a doubt a car setup to run on tramac.

I dunno about that. I've been following rally and it seems like 99.9% of the mechanical problems are unrelated to the intercoolers. In fact, if Subaru's powersteering setup was as reliable as their TMIC 'ol Petter could have won Mexico. That's probably the most punishing rally on the circuit but Loeb's Citroen (with a FMIC) took the podium.

To clairfy, I never said a FMIC car cannot win, just the placement of the part puts it at a higher risk of being damaged or clog with debris (lose power). It (TMIC) is a better placement for the condition it needs to exist in.

First pic is a Misubishi RVR
Second one is a Mitsubishi Airtrek turbo

The RVR is an ugly wagon with a Evo 3 underneath

The Airtrek is a beautiful piece of machinery and is a mixture of Evo 7 engine and Evo 4-5 suspension. Comes with a slightly smaller turbo- which can be quickly remedied!!
The top mount is the worst part of the setup but is easily sorted with a larger top mount and water/alky injection. The good thing about the top mount though is the very short intercooler piping, so there is quite good throttle response.
Im running 260kw(350hp) at the wheels on a mustang- makes for quite a sleeper!!

Even though the Evo has a good amount a titles and championship in rally, i totally agree. I though this for a while, as I've driven both on taramc and dirt mountain roads. Also, its very easy to see the Evo's dominace over the Sti on the tarmac.
