looking to buy an evo and need some advice

hi all,

i'm new here and have a question. i am aware that first year production models come with their share of problems so i must ask even thou this platform has been around in other countries for years:

what are your thoughts on me buying a 2003 vs 2004 evo, both w/lower mileage? i know the '03's go for something like 5k less then the 04's. why should i buy an '04 vs an '03? or should i just go for an '05? please keep price in mind, i know that the newer the better.

thanks
meek

How much money do you have to spend? If you can get an 05.

Get the newest one you can. There are no big differences between the 03 and 04 models that I am aware of. The 05's do have some big differences though so go that route if you can. Good luck

the 05's have an active center diff and front lsd. But do not have the HID headlights and intercooler sprayer that the 03-04's have. If you get an 05 with the ssl package you get the HID's and leather and sunroof.

are the '05's any less problematic then the '03's? do you by chance have a list of the differences per model year?

thanks again

The 04 has a better LSD i beleive. 03 had more problems with a misfire code and such. I always try not to buy the first year for a car. I would go with the 05 if you could though.

most likley since they would be a younger car, there is no really bad evo, or a year to stay away from. Newer has better performance, though costs more. As long as the evo is not abused then it will be pretty reliable.
