"World Engine" - Chrysler, Hyundai, Mistu
I received a copy of Automotive Engineering and it had an article about the World Engine that Chrysler, Hyundai and Mitsubishi have jointly been working on and thought I would share.
As most of you know this is the engine that will be in the Evo X and Dodge Calibur SRT-4.
Sorry for the crappy pic, but it is the best I could do at the moment. I could send people the PDF file if requested.
Enjoy.

I might have been quick to say that it is the next Evo X engine...I may be wrong, but I believe that if it isn't this engine then it will be a slight variation of it. Meaning some modifications to handle the boost. I have seen info on the next SRT-4 and it is said to have 300hp stock.

yeah from what i've herd, its a dodge/chrysler body with mitsu engine, and hyundai drivetrain. i think i remember hearing some where that the X and the SRT-4 will share drivetrain but the evo's motor will live up to its ancestors.

I'm sure the price will increase accordingly.

The guys at Car and Driver got to test it out at the snow covered mitsubishi proving grounds in northern Japan according to the article in the June 2006 issue. (page 38)

I knew about the X's improvements (or at least, reported improvements)...but I hadn't realized the SRT-4 might be sporting the same engine. If they kept the SRT-4 FWD with much of the same characteristics of the 03-05 SRT-4, 300hp would be scary.

There's definitely technology that can combat the issues associated with high HP/TQ FWD cars.
I guess...what I was getting at was what the SRT-4 is/was: and that is, an affordable sports compact. I doubt anyone would disagree that they make some pretty amazing numbers/times for what they are, and for the little amount of money you need to invest (relative, of course, but some pretty scary gains can be made for very little).
That being said, if they upgraded the engine (which seems odd, considering all the attention the 03-05 platform received. read: built) to this new collaborative design, and then added a lot of the handling components to be on par with this new platform, it'd cease to be what it was. The price will undoubtly raise to reflect these changes, etc. and so on.
I hope that makes some sense? =/
Edit: I also realize the 04-05 models came equipped with LSD from the factory. And, yes, this did help control the torque steer, but it certainly didn't eliminate the issue. With an additional 70 crank horsepower from factory (which is near what they made in 04-05 anyway with the stock 220-230whp dynos), the torque steer would (obviously) be increasingly more noticable. So, in other words, more measures/steps would have to be taken. I'm not a mechanical engineer, so for all I know, they might have something that will drastically simplify all of this, thus allowing the car to retain its former price tag. That is, of course, assuming they intend for it to compete at the same level. All speculation.
