My Evo would be gone in a heartbeat if I could afford a GT3. GT3 is currently my very favorite car at any price, even if it isn't the fastest around. I just love the concept, the outside, the inside, the rev limit, the fact it makes its power NA...pretty much everything about the car.

You mentioned something that stood out in my mind.

You made a point about how you love to drive the XXXt out of the Evo and that you might not be able to do that in the GT3.

I think your instincts serve you well here to consider that issue seriously.

Even a very wealthy person would likely find it hard to take the kind of risks you would take in a $35k car and do the same thing in a $100k+ car.

You probably will not find the same level of enjoyment in the GT3, after the initial honeymoon period wears off.

I had a somewhat similar situation recently. (Actually 2 weeks ago), keep my Yellow 2003 Evo or trade it in on a black or silver Evo 9. I love my yellow Evo, first car I owned that ever got named (Pikachu), I knew the 9 was so much better than the 2003 in pretty much every way, but I am attached to my little yellow car, I figured I would miss it too much if I got rid of it.

Anyway, after a long time thinking about it over and over, my girlfriend eventually persuaded me to trade in Pikachu. You know what happened? As soon as I picked up the 9 I was like Pika-who?

The 9 is a superior car to the 2003, and the GT3 is a FAR superior car to the Evo, whichever Evo you have. I say if you have the wife's blessing do it and do it now. You will not look back.

The trick to taking off in a Carrera GT on the street..... Don't touch the gas pedal.

You know what the insurance is on the GT3? about triple the Evo, not to mention 150 an hour at the Porsche dealer and parts cost 5 times the Evo. Mod it? hope you got 50K sitting around. Nice car, but too many what if's

I drove a GT3 and it's a great car, the noise from the engine and the response of the engine is great. Suspension wise it's harder and handles better but all together I would keep the Evo because you can make it a better car for street or track with way less money. Plus you have the awd traction!

Wait you've got an 89 M3 and you're complaining parts and dealer costs. I that model stuck with the old German creed of "If you can see it, you can't reach it. If you can reach it, you can't see it". Those are as much of a pain to work on as a Porsche unless you've stripped out the engine bay. But it's still one of my favorite cars even though I'll never buy a BMW.
