STi for EVO IX MR?

Hi, I'm looking into trading my STi in for the EVO IX MR, but I want to know a few things first if you all would be so kind as to inform me.

1. Is there any way to install cruise control on the EVO?

2. I test drove an EVO VIII RS yesterday because they were lacking the other EVO's and quality appeared to be up there with the STi so I want to know if there are any problems that I should know about the EVO (MR) that only someone who owns one would know.

Thank you.

They make Cruise control for VIII's not sure if there compatible with the new IX's.

IX's have fewer problems of course compared to the VIII's but good luck in your search.

I've got both an STi and an Evo IX MR. I prefer to drive the Evo. It feels more like a sports car than the STi. The STi feels more like a muscle car, almost like driving a Mustang.

The quality of the IX is as good or better than the STi and the ride is smoother. At the same time the Evo's steering is sharper and more precise and it has less body roll during cornering.

The gearbox on the Evo is a million times smoother than the notchy one in the STi and the gears are longer. I like the way you can actually run out a gear on the Evo rather than the rapid shifting required in the STi.

The Evo has far better seats and the Evo also has more leg room especially for rear seat passengers.

Better legroom on the evo front and back, and the IX's can be monsters with just a flash and TBE >330whp.

If you plan to mod the evo, be prepared for little-no warrenty support

My thoughts to the T... a suggestion to help get over the difference of lower end torque that you will be missing stepping out of an STi is to get a turbo back exhaust immediatly.

The only "problem" with the MR is the short gearing that makes it difficult to finish the 1/4-mile above 112mph. However, the STi is even worse already, and the IX 5spd isn't much better either, so it's really stretching it to refer to it as a "problem." I have had 0 issues with my MR, and I'm at 19k miles with nearly 200 drag runs, 10+ autocrosses, and 4 track days.

Wow. Thanks everyone. I know that it may seem a little petty but I cannot stand a car without cruise control. I used to have an Integra Type R which come with no cruise and drove it from California to Colorado. What a PAIN! Definitely gonna get it for the EVO.

Doesn't seem like there is anything to worry about especially if you can drag and autoX it that many times with it being fine. I have heard that the IX's are alot more tunable. STi's just...aren't really unless you swap out the turbo.

Well, thanks again. Cool place and cool people.

Regarding the cruise, for those who have installed one, can you post pics of the controls? I'm afraid of it looking odd...

DrSmile, just search for examples. Don't ask others to do the work for you.

Mike Jones, no biggie - I agree that not having CC is annoying. It's not enough of a nuisance for me to go installing some aftermarket crap that adds weight, but I sure wish I had it sometimes.

i never felt the need for a cruise control, and i drive 1000 miles every other weekend from socal to norcal. but if u NEED it, then it's been done. based on what i read it is retrofitted from regular lancers? correct me if i'm wrong.

anyways, good luck. u'll like the Evo, esp. the IX MR

e.g. u're a lucky man to have an s2k and evo/sti combo...it's the best there is IMO

I do use the CC in my WRX when I take it on long trips, but that's only like two-three times per year, so didn't really give much negative consideration to my new IX MR not having it...

I just like using the CC when my leg gets tired or my a$$ hurts from sitting in one position and I have to move around or when I feel like getting decent gas mileage . I have a heavy foot and CC let's me relax it. No self control . How much does it cost to have CC installed anyways?

i don't usually drive the Evo on long trips, but if i did i would probably like to have CC too. CC is definitely my friend when driving up to Tahoe in the S4 - saves the legs before going snowboarding. though i guess after tomorrow that won't be a concern for awhile.....
