IX Cam position is off, I knew this would happen.

I knew it. I had a stinking suspision that the mechanics would screw this one up when they said that they had to replace my timing belt. (They had to replace it because it had gotten saturated with oil due to the fact that my engine seemed to be manufactured by the one redneck that lives in Japan)

So anyway, I picked up my car on friday from the dealer and drove it home. The next day I'm headed to the beach and I notice a "service engine soon" warning light. I head over to Advance Auto to check the code and we see this code:

P0011
Camshaft Position
Actuator A - Bank 1
Timing Over - Advan

Seems like the mechanic may have accidentally changed the cam position. Does anybody know how this will effect the MIVEC system. My car still drives relatively well.... no stumbles or knock. The power seems slightly lower if anything, but maybe it's all in my head.

How bad is this for my motor? i.e. if one of the cam gears got off a degree or two on a MIVEC contorolled engine... will it compensate, adapt and run and just show a "service engine soon" light to let me know that thing's are not 100% but it will still run fine?

I would fix it myself, if they didn't do it right the 1st time what makes you think they could ever do it right the second time.
With a fault like that I would think they would have scanned it and test drove it before ever returning the car back to you

I am on monday. This is the 4th trip I've had to make to the dealership because of something being wrong with my brand new IX. It doesn't even have 3,000 miles on it yet. Seems like every time I take it to them, they screw up something else in the process.

My steering wheel was damaged and they arranged to replace it. When they did that, they put it back on the spline a little crooked... which required an alignment job, which they screwed up... so I had to make another trip.

The engine has leaked oil all over the place since I bought it. So, after a couple of trips they fix the leak, saturate my timing belt with oil, replace it.... but screw up my cam position in the process.

Oh the joys of owning an Evo and not getting to drive it.

Hell I missed it when I drove it home from the dealership. The problem is, I have the autometer steering column gauge pod to hold my boost gauge and it restricts the view of that specific spot. Lesson learned there. In my attempt at not looking to ricey (i.e. I didn't want my A-pillar to be full of gauges) I took away my view of my warning lights... and the mechanics view as well.

I'm a helicopter pilot. Caution and Warning lights are vital to the survival of me and my crew. I should have known better. Hell, autometer should have known better when they designed that gauge pod... it belongs on the right side and not the left.

please take it back to te dealer.. the second you try to fix it they will blame the mistake on you and cancel your warranty. Make them fix it for free.

I'm not touching it... okay, maybe I'd touch it to look at it, but I'm certainly not going to try to fix a cam system on an engine such as the IX's. I'm just wondering why it's still running fine even though the computer is telling me that there is something wrong with the cam position. I don't know if it's the intake or exhaust cam. I'm just hoping that it will be okay to drive to the dealership for trip number 5 within two months.

Part of me says that I should have stuck with my old BMW M Coupe. That was a hooligan of a car and I loved it. BMW service was much better.

i don't see how it can be off by 1-2*. one tooth on the cam gear is equal to (+/-)7.5*. i would be taking it back there asap. or atleast one tooth on the evo 8 is 7.5*. IX could be different.

I have p0011 code on my IX before, I reset it with my Creader and it will come right back on everytime I start the car. It didn't affect any performance or anything in my case.

Anyway, I took my car to the dealer, they scan through the car and find nothing wrong and they reset it with thier equipment. Ever since then, I never see it pop up again....weird.

Hey, thanks for the reply. What caused the P0011 code to come up in the first place with your car?

I really don't know what triggered it, the dealer can't find out neither.

Because I wanted to know this. I don't want my motor to wind up more screwed up than it has to be by driving it around. My original post was kind of long, but the main question is there.
