Royal Purple VS. Red Line

90% of drivers use the OEM mitsu stuff (diaqueen) which works fine. I've personally seen a guy putting in Penzoil (can't remember which one) in his tc, drove out and his car came back the next day on a truck with a broken tc.
You can use most things in your gearbox, but for the tc and rear diff I would not recommend anything else.
You can't ever dismiss my own experiences. I use to take the Evo 8 MR to the track often(I still do) but I was missing third gear all the time, once in a while same issue with second gear and the problem went away with Syncromesh.
My Evo 9 shifting was notchy from day one, I decided to change the tranny fluid to Syncromesh as well and it fix the problem, shifting is very smooth now.
I also took my Stealth to the track and ran 3 times, after the second pass my second gear was making grinding ALL the times. The problem persisted even at low speed and low rpms and it would stay like that in all traffic conditions, I was about to send the tranny for repairs in the near future. A friend of mine Trevor(10.9@133 Stealth) told me to put Red ine MTL 75-90 and I did. My shifting on the Stealth is smooth and the grinding noise is 100% gone. Sometimes a $20 investment on a good quality tranny fluid can save you thousands of dollars.
That was my very positive experience on Red Line MTL and Syncromesh. I currently have 3 bootles of Royal purple on my garage as we speak, I was going to try the Royal purple on either of the cars just in case any of them failed but so far so good, it looks like at least Red Line MTL or Syncromesh will fix most of your shifting issues.
My tranny tested .2c

Alot of guys use MTL-90 or 75w90 by mistake and destroy there TC.

transfer case and rear diff: Diaqueen
tranny:
I've used Pennzoil Syn for the first 15k-30k. I will say you do have to change it frequently...like every 5-7k. I've been using Royal Purple now for 15k (haven't changed it once) miles and it is the closest thing that I've used that IMO comes close to the factory tranny fluid (which I can't purchase) in both shifting and durability.
I've heard and read that BG is great, and is changed roughly every 10k.
But to answer your questions, Royal Purple is what I'm using and will be using again the next time I change the tranny fluid.

are you using the Royal Purple Synchromax or the max gear 75w90 in the tranny? It seems some people like the RP in the tranny, and some don't, maybe they are using the wrong kind.

I hear good things about Penzoil, GM, and BG synchromesh, As well as redline (which is what I'm using.) Redline reduced the grind I had in 2nd gear to almost nothing. Still get some in 5th gear in high rpms. I'll be switching to PZ synchromesh next. Reason being, PZ you can find in your local store. You usually have to order BG synchroshift.
