Is it bad to leave car in gear on a hill?

i just realize i always leave the car...(not evo) in gear on hills.... is this bad?

when i finally get the evo, i dont want to continue to do this if its not good for the tranny...

sometimes i put it in gear...turn the car off so the tranny stops the car from rolling, then hit the E-brake....

can i be causing damage?

you're supposed to leave it in first gear when at an incline with your steering wheel turned 100% away from the curb.

If your car is pointing downhill you turn the wheel to the right.........pointing uphill you turn the wheel to the left.

You pull the ebrake 1st. You shouldn't have tension on your tranny while parked.....in other words don't let the tranny stop the car.

but if pressure is on the tranny is that bad.... does that affect anything in the evo...i know the tend to have a more "delicate" a.k.a. $H!ty transmission

Yeah probably, but that's why you set the Ebrake FIRST then let out the clutch with it in gear. Leaving it in gear is only a safety measure.

Also facing down hill i put it in reverse, up hill in 5th. Think about this logically guys.

I was always taught to leave it in 1st rather than 5th. Wouldnt there be more resistance in first than in fifth? The idea being if the the e-brake fails the tranny and the curb are going to stop the car from rolling away and causing unknown damages to itself and other things.

You leave it 1st, or else it will roll back anyway. 5th doesn't have evough to keep it from rolling on a steep grade (Reverse for downhill).

Like has already been said, you press the clutch after pulling the brake and let it rest against the e-brake then shut it down with it in gear.

I am pretty sure 5th has more resistance. If you think about it getting 5th gear to spin from a stop normally would be near impossible, and horrible for your clutch. 1st just spins up like nothing. It's basic physics.

5th gear can't picking up from a stop doesnt have to do with the car when the engine is off.
