This would require a little more reworking, but you can mount the boost gauge on the steering column (much better than the A-pillar because you can read boost, rpms, etc this way). For the other 3 gauges, you can move the stereo to the lower bin (need a part from Mitsubishi so the head unit will fit), then install those gauges in place of the head unit for easy and safe viewing. RMR also has a nice carbon fiber steering column pod for a gauge for around $99 I think.

Once we get a set of gauges, we'll be doing a whole article on that setup to help others out.

Regards,

Mark

More often than not, you will see A-pillar gauges and the complimentary fire extinguisher mounted on the passenger A-pillar on Chevy Cavaliers, Pontiac Sunfires and Honda Civic's. For the most part of all of those, they are stock except for a fart pipe and some 17" cheap, heavy aftermarket wheels, and maybe a pep boys wing to go with it.

Yes, a few cars have them for real use, but the majority these days is just rice.

The whole A-pillar thing has been tainted by the Ricers.

I don't understand where MEGABUSA is getting the whole rice thing?? There are GT class cars and many other cars with A-Pillar gauges, you calling those europeans rice too?

I just test fitted two of my HKS 52mm gauges using the HKS stands on the steering column and it might just work. I'll finish the install hopefully tomorrow.. lol!

So you would not run a functional gauge solution, that is VERY economical and practical, because someone might think you are a ricer??? HAHAHAHA Talk about low self esteem, do you use your car to pick up girls too?

Haven't you realized everyone that sees you drive the evo who doesn't know what it is thinks you are a ricer anyways?

Would you happen to know what the part # for that is Mark? Anyone?

I think the steering column mount from RMR looks pretty good, and puts whatever gauge you want right in front of the drivers line of sight.

As far as rice goes though, my Evo 's wing has gained some "rice, rice, baby" comments, so I'm not gonna hack on what people think is cool or not.

I will say, though, that the fire extinguisher on the passengers a-pillar is just plain stupid...if the airbags go off, that thing would be a 5lb missile!

you aren't kidding jasons. it would be like your own personal tomahawk aimed right at your buddy or your girl. i saw an accident where the passenger airbag went of and blew out the front windshield! it wasn't even that bad an accident!

I'd imagine he is used to seeing kids with A pillar gauges on their hondas. And usually the gauges people mount into a ricey civic (with no engine mods) are a tach and a voltmeter....useless gauges....

But that does not make having A pillar gauges ricey for all purposes.

Though it is my opinion that in stock form, the Evo has no real need for a boost gauge. And until you start modifying the boost profile or other engine management parameters, the Mitsu ECU is the only thing that really needs to know what PSI the engine is boosting.

SC~

That's probably true. I am actually thinking putting a boost controller, BOV, and probably AFC, so in this case there might be a need for these extra gauges.

Guess I'll look into the steering mount alternative as well. Thanks again for your valuable input!

I wouldn't consider a tach or voltmeter useless. Think about it, most Civic owner's want a more visible tach, and the volt-meter for their overkill audio system.

Personally, I'd like the tach, and can't decide on the other gauge to go with. I'm leaning towards oil pressure I think, maybe A/F.
