Also if they have the cheap spares then you could end up only paying like 2-3 dollars.Seems that car thieves have found yet another way to steal your car
or
truck without any effort at all. The car thieves peer through the
windshield of your car or truck, write down the VIN # from the label
on
the dash, go to the local car dealership and request a duplicate key
based on the VIN #.
I didn't believe this e-mail, so I called a friend at Chrysler
Dodge and pretended I had lost my keys. They told me to just bring
in the VIN #, and they would cut me one on the spot, and I could
order the keyless device if I wanted.
The Car Dealer's Parts Department will make a duplicate key from
the VIN #, and collect payment from the th! ief who will return to
your car. He doesn't have to break in, do any damage to the
vehicle, or draw attention to himself. All he has to do is walk up
to your car, insert the key and off he goes to a local Chop Shop
with your vehicle.
You don't believe it? It IS that easy.
To avoid this from happening to you, simply put some tape
(electrical tape, duct tape or medical tape) across the VIN Metal
Label located on the dash board. By! law, you cannot remove the VIN,
but you can cover it so it can't be viewed through the windshield
by a car thief.
I urge you to forward this to your friends before some other car
thief steals another car or truck.
I slipped a 3 x 5 card over the VIN # .
i've hear that on some cars with keyless remote, that if you lock the key in the car and you have a spare remote at home, just call someone at home and tell them hold the spare remote up the phone and hit the button while you hold the cell phone next to the car. the signal will travel over the phone line and to your car and unlock it. i hear it on the radio going driving to work one day, i remember that people were calling it and said it actually work on some models.

I locked myself from my company car last week, so I go to the local auto mechanic.
The mechanic had a neat tool which consisted of a small pry/edge (that is padded to avoid scratching your paint and tearing the weatherstrip), a small rod with a hook end, and a 6"x6" inflatable pad.
1. The wedge is used to pry the door enough to open a gap large enough to slip the 6"x6" pad in the gap (at most the gap is about 3 credit cards thick).
2. The inflatable 6"x6" pad has a small hand pump (looks exactly like the pump for taking blood pressure) which is used to inflate the pad and widen the gap.
3. The air pressure in the pad is held by closing a small valve right near the hand pump.
4. The small rod with the hooked end (about the diameter of a q-tip) is used to hook the door lever to open the door.
It took less than 2 minutes for the mechanic to open the door to my company car.
Great tool.

i locked my keys in my rs before. When i play ball i always leave my change of clothes in my car and i forgot my keys where in the jeans soo when i hit the lock button and closed the door i was screwed. Good thing my cousin was there with his roadside assistance card and we called them and they came out and unlocked the door free of charge.

People offered to slim jim, coat hanger, pry open my SRT4 but i was like screw that. I called AAA and they sent an automotive locksmith within 30 minutes and got the car open in less than 10 seconds w/o any damage to my car whatsoever!!!
This year I got smarter with my EVO. Before I would close and lock the doors I made sure I took a second out to MAKE SURE that my car keys were in my hands first!!!
I went an extra step and gave a buddy of mine (who was travelling with me) an extra set of keys (for the duration of the roadtrip) just in case I locked myself out!!!
That keyless remote over the phone is BS. How are you transmitting a radio frequency over a phone line and through a cel packet?

I call BS on this one too.....
If it is true then I can stick my hand thru the mouthpiece of the phone and choke the other guy on the other end thats holding the cell phone...
funny thing here is that i did and tried the same thing to out office truck here in the desert. my vco wasn't very happy. he needed to to to trans to get one extra key to open it and that was in the other side of the base. bad thing about is that, the car was still running. just want to check out something real quick without turning the truck off, and didn't realized that i put my hand on the lock on my way out. got to love your VCO guys they'll save u most of the time

Man I remember them days.
