i just dont understand how the with like $2k u can get so much performance gains with the evo 9 over the 8

from my understandin.... aren't they almost the same car..... what is technically different... if i put the same parts in evo 8 and 9 ....how come the 9 will perform better?????

maybe intake manifold... maybe coolant passages. definitely turbo, torque is definitely mivec

and we all though that mivec would ruin the tuning capablities of the evo....lol boy were we wrong....lol

 

In stock trim, the 2005 Evo 8 is basicly as fast as the Evo 9. Once you start modding the Evo 9 the bigger turbo gives you some lead, off course the MIVEC as well.

Everything looks proportional to me. Like I drive a Dodge Stealth second gen and the only difference between the first gen and second gen is that the engine has a more agressive sofware on the computer allowing 3 more psi of boost consequently obtaining 20hp more..

On the Evo 9 the turbo alone makes a big difference..

i thought mivec only works at lower rpm. i think its the head design

 

OMG this has been beaten to death a bazillion trillion times.

 

turbo or mivec....pick ur poison.

there are lots of threads debating which one's the cause, but i've never read anything conclusive.

i believe it's both....mivec for smoothing the power delivery a bit and adding extra torque, and slightly bigger turbo for more power.

 

all i know is that when i press the gas pedal, it goes really fast

 

the turbo is slightly bigger than the 8. the mivec also helps out alot too. i own a 9 and my buddy owns a 8. and you can feel the difference in the engines and spooling.

 

yea i heard alot of people saying that after they go for test drives in the new 9's at the dealers.
