conversion of an Evo hater
A good friend of mine has had nothing but negative things to say since I bought my '05 RS back in February of 2005. If it wasn't too bumpy, it was too loud. If it wasn't too loud it was too plain. If it wasn't too plain it was too "boy racer". And so and so forth.
So anyways about 2 months ago he called me at like 11pm on a Sunday night all excited because he saw that segment on Sports Car Revolution where Chip Herr talks about and drives an '05 Evo RS. My buddy asked me like 20 questions. Half of those questions were him asking "so your car is the EXACT same car Herr was driving?". Once I finally convinced him it was he paid me the first compliment on my car I've ever heard. He said "that things a roll cage away from a race car".
About a month ago his sister's boyfriend bought a 350Z track edition. He and his sister own a home together so he and the BF hang out a lot on the weekend. Apparently he's driven the Z and now he's trying to convince me to trade in the Evo for one. It's been a constant sell job for about 3 weeks now. Apparently "Chris", his sister's BF, is the ultimate performance car authority and it's been decided that my Evo is essentially just a mish-mesh of high performance parts on an otherwise budget conscious commuter car. Yesterday we went to lunch and when he started licking 350Z sack (once again) on the walk out to the car I told him to STFU and threw him my car keys. Besides the guys at Gruppe-S, nobody has ever driven my car besides me.
He pulls out of the parking lot and, like all Evo newbs, complains that there is no power as we're crusing in 4th gear at 2k RPM's. I told him to drop it into 3rd and floor it. The look on his face was priceless as we raced to redline and he nearly fuxored the shift to 4th. He let off the gas at about 70mph and just started shaking his head, "it pulls harder than my dirt bike". From there we raced around town a little. In 15 minutes time you could already see he was going to be licking Evo sack for a while. This morning he called me to see if I knew of a good Mitsu dealer in the Peninsula. Mission accomplished.

350z are only fast on the freeway. However, they are still slower than an evo. I beat my share of 350z and g35. They also have crappier handling, crappier traction, and I dont like how the thing feels when I sit in it the. The evo engine is so much of a better platform. The whole car is a better platform. 350z or g35 is nice if you plan on driving your real estate clients around.

i love the Z's personally, they are a sexy car. Looks nice both interior and exterior, mod friendly, and im sure the warranty lasts a bit longer than ours LOL.... but, its no evo. It will never be, it was always be 3rd or 4th class behind the EVO and STI as far as performance goes.
