it's pretty easy to submarine in the stock seat. bad.

in a racing seat it's less bad especially when it sits right.

You don't want camlocks for a daily driver. They:

1) Take too much time
2) Are not street legal (You can/will get **** from the cops, trust me)
3) If you get in an accident the EMT will cut your belts instead of pressing the release latch. Ouch.

Not with proper harnesses like the Schroth with anti-submarining.... as long as you sit UPRIGHT. If you drive like a hood-rat with your seat reclined way back, you get what you deserve.

I drive pretty upright to begin with because thats how i've always been taught in the various schools i've attended. But when i do "very spirited" driving or track driving, i crank it to pretty much verticle. Its safer, you have more control, etc.

Can you safely install a 5 point sparco harness on the harness bar WITH stock Recaro seats? where does the submarine belt (the one between your legs bolt on to?)

one last thing: whats the difference between the "bolt-in kits" and the "snap-in kits" ?

Thanks..

uhm... only if you're short enough. and you'd have to cut a hole in the seat.

i'm sure 10 people are gonna jump all over me now and say there is no safe way to run a harness without a bar.

this is a good thread!! the only problem with threads like this is that there is never a clear answer. some people say harness bars are ok and most say that its still not safe. what i would like to see is a final answer to the harness question, where which harness is the best to get and if a harness bar is good to get. since there are so many harnesses out there, its tough trying to decide.

personally, i want to get harnesses for my car that would be good for daily or couple of times a week driving. the reason for this is i want to be secured into the seat incase i do some spirited driving or just overall safety. i dont like how the oem seat belts allow movement in hard turns. if would be nice to have a set of harnesses that are safe and easy to get out of. also, if its a good idea to get a harness bar. hopefully this can be answered once and for all.

Well i'm going to go with the information provided by my manager at work who is a NASA instructor and has raced for years as well as my friend Boris who was a three year national Ralley champion in Bulgaria in the 80's before he came to the United States. Both of them said that as long as you have your seat upright and everything is secured properly, you will not need a harness bar with this cars designs.

you guys can argue over this all you want. I'd tend to go with a professional NASA instructors opinion as well as the opinion of a 3 time national ralley champion.

Both of them DID say though that a harness bar is a good idea depending on the type of harness you use. Most 5-6 point harnesses REQUIRE a bar or cage for safe use. But with the Schroth ones i'm buying, they should be perfectly fine without one.
