If you don't understand something, then it's best to spend a few hours studying it by searching. If you read the SAFC forum or any of the flash forums, you will begin to understand.

To answer your thread title - an SAFC gives you a tune, so the question is invalid.

I'm sure you'll find a lot of info on this by searching but here's a quick overview. The SAFC and the Reflash (there are many different types) are two ways to achieve the same thing: tuning. However, they're very different in nature.

The SAFC is a crude piggyback computer that allows you to control fueling. This means that it intercepts the signals on your ECU and modifies them to produce the desired results. Since Evos run so rich from the factory, a lot of power can be made just by leaning out the AFRs. A good SAFC tune in conjunction with our Gruppe-S Stage 1 (02 outlet, TBE) will usually yield gains of ~30 WHP and 20 WTQ.

A reflash actually alters the code on your ECU so it offers a lot more control than the AFC. For instance, our Gruppe-S reflash allows full control of fueling (meaning you can scale injectors as well control flow), timing, boost, rev limit (for 2-stage launch control), idle control, and many other parameters. This reflash with our Stage 1 will usually yield gains of ~40WHP and ~30 WTQ. However, the more heavily your car is modified, the more benefits a reflash will provide. If you're running larger injectors, an ungraded turbo, or something like alky injection, a reflash is a must. Hope this info helps. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Daniel
