Has anybody been getting shocked when touching metal parts (like the doors) when getting out of your car?? It happens to me almost every time. Anoying as hell!! Is this indicative of a poor grouding system?? or is it just me building static electricity from all the hugs the recaros give me while taking the long way home from work
yea this happens to everyone, but u have to watch out, this is how car fire gets started. this may sound unlikely, but when u put gas, after getting out of your car, u have to touch a metal surface to neutralize ur body before u can put gas.

hence, there are new grounded touch surfaces on the gas pump meter.

Yea, it's even suggested that you DO NOT go sit in your car while you are fuling, because once you come out, you might be carrying extra electrons. Remember that! A lot of poeple do it in the winter time. The electricity dischcarge sometimes has a lot of voltage. You don't see a lap top with metal cases right? Cause the static can fry your cpu or any other parts. Sometimes the static electricity gets over 9000 Volts, Nope, I am not mistaken.
A good way to get rid of the shock is when you get out of the car, make sure you hold a metal key in you hand, and touch the door frame use the key. If you are in the dark, you'll see a really cool blue spark. Or if you have your gf in the car, ask her to come over before you close the door.

Happens every time.

You could always attach an aircraft grounding cable prior to refueling if you are really concerned about the fire hazzard.

Or...buy a can of Static Guard (developed to prevent clothes from clinging due to static electricity) and spray the interior of your car.

When you get out of your car, just keep a hand on some metal part of the door or body of the car as you're getting off the seat. You won't get a shock that way.

I got shocked for the first time yesterday (but have only had it for two days)
So far I only get shocked when wearing my addidas running shoes. But no shock with my doc martens. Same thing at work. It's like Office Space and the static door handles when I'm wearing the running shoes.

Cool

Almost every car has that problem, here is how to avoid it.

1, Turn off your car and open your door.

2, Don't step on the ground yet! Put your left hand on the outside metal car body, upper, lower, your choice (touch inside metal won't work sometime).

3, in order not to create more static charges when move out, use your right hard to grab the wheel ( so u can lift your butt from the seat). Step on the ground with left foot.

4, now, if you SILDE out on your seat, you will still get shocked. so LIFT your butt from the seat, then go out of the car. Don't move your left hand away from the car body until you are completely out. Done!
