Getting shocked when touching your evo

Has anybody been getting shocked when touching metal parts (like the doors) when getting out of your car?? It happens to me almost every time. Anoying as hell!! Is this indicative of a poor grouding system?? or is it just me building static electricity from all the hugs the recaros give me while taking the long way home from work

Yes, it happens to me and everybody else who rides in my car every single time I get out when closing the door. Probably just the high-friction material used for the Recaros, but I could be wrong. It shouldn't have anything to do with a poor grounding system, it's just that a car sitting on tires isn't making a good ground with the...well...ground so when you stand on the ground and touch the car, that static's now got a way to get to the ground. Are you sick of the word ground yet?

It happened on my OZ Rally, but hasn't happened (yet) on the Evo.

Its from the fabric on the seats. Same effect as suffling your feet across the carpet in your house. Especailly in "drier" climates

It happens due to the fabric of the recaros. When you slide out, you generate a lot of charge on yourself. Its not a grounding thing. To avoid it, just touch some of the metal around the door frame as you get out. Its the sliding on the seats, so if your touching something metal on the car you wont generate any charge. Again just make sure to be touching the metal AS you slide on the seats.

Same thing happens to me ... EVERY ****ING TIME ...

never happened in my GSX .. must have been the leather seats.

oh well .. small price to pay

( actually this would have been something to mention in the "how to own an evo" video, the brakes may be a little loud .. blah blah blah .. how about .. you will most likely get shocked every damn time you exit your car, yes .. this is normal)

I've remedied this shocking phenomena by closing the car door by the plastic handle...

I had a feeling it was the recaros. I was reaching a bit when I mentioned the car's grounding system. I'll remember to touch something metal while getting out. No big deal.

thats also why you shouldnt get back into your car when your pumping gas. you could light it with a spark, highly unlikely though

On the next version there should be a built in fire suppression system for when we fuel the vehicle. I will make a mental note to add that to my wish list.

But seriously folks this shocking phenom happens to me too.... That plastic handle idea is good....so is discharging somewhere in the car before exiting...

That's actually a little more common than people might think (still rare though). I've actually seen that warning sign on quite a few gas pumps now.

heh I was always worried about the chip in the key, frying it with static discharge, then not being able to start the car because immobilizer won't let me, haha.

Good thing it's covered in plastic.
