Upgrading...cams, alky, flash..tips from experts...
Hey, i've come into some cash right now, so im going all the way up.. tho any inputs from people who are knowleged in this, i would greatly appreciate your help..
currently, i have a TBE exhaust and an MBC..
my to buy list is: cams, fuel pump (255lph walbro), stage 1 ACT clutch, and the Alky by either SMC or Buschur, as well as a dynoflash as a finale..
any order in which i should buy and install them?
I have no idea what cam combo to get, or wether i would need other things as well to compensate for these upgrades (upper IC piping?, new IC?)
Help would be greatly appreciated...
Thank you...
one last thing, the flex section on the dp (does it rob power, should i buy a new dp with just smooth design?)

1) No, the flex section is fine.
2) Start with Forge RS DV, Walbro 255, GSC cams, Buschur LICP, and a flash.
3) Later, do the alky (Buschur kits are SMC, so no need to choose), but do it after having all the bolt-ons, such as ported/coated stock mani, ported/coated 10.5 hotside, and coated SS o2 housing.
4) AFter all that and with alky running 26+psi daily, then think about upgrading the FMIC.
On the cams, if you want all low-end torque and mid-range, get 264s. If you want mid-range and more top-end, get 272s. If you sort of want an all-around increase in power, do a hybrid 264/272 combo.

only thing I see that might cause you problems is the choice for the act clutch... Ive read posts on here about the clutches and some of the issues they have had with EVOS. Not saying act is a bad clutch at all(they make awesome clutches for dsms) im just saying you might have issues with this setup. check this out and maybe warr could chime in.. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...clutch+problem
also with the buschur or ams upper ic pipe you will need to get the mini bat. kit. just extra money you would have to spend.

I did not like my ACT, but I don't make a point to bash it. In all fairness, I abused the hell out of it, and it wasn't up to the task. Maybe it wasn't meant for that. I do love my Exedy Stg 2 now, though, but it's not for the average joe who doesn't race.
Jasburbak,
If I am not mistaking the Buschur/SMC/Dynoflash alcohol kits are the same.
The ACT clutch I would definately live it for the end, my best 60' time on my car came from the stock clutch, wait until goes bad then replace it, no need to waste the money now.
The intercooler also can wait, the stocker does a great job.
The cams are always welcome, just about any combo gives the 4G63 tons of power, you just need to pick up the best set up for the type of driving you do.

I agree... I ABSOLUTLY LOVE my act in my dsm. But will probably stick with Exedy in the evo.
just food for thought.
Also, what would be the ballpark figure for hp gain after alky/meth install&tuned for it? *im sure this has been beat to death by now*

finding the set of cams one would want for an evo is a pain in the *** if you ask me haha there are so many good places to choose from. Allthough HKS would almost be the obvious choice.
I would try doing some research on:
JUN
Forced Performance/COMP
GSC
The search button is your friend.
*take care of the basics before the cams, I would say let the cams/alky/flash be the icing on the cake*

Thanks a lot for the input guys, really helped me out.. im going to go with my stock, but dont think it'll last for long tho with the additiona torque.. would i need mounts and studs for the engine after all this? i do, do the occasional weekend drag racing..

i wouldnt say its 100% necessary at this point to do mounts unless you feel like it....but while the cams are out might as well get studs installed, along with new timing bet/tensioner.
What is the determining factor in deciding whether or not one needs to install the ARP head studs? Is it the boost level(e.g. +25#) or is it the addition of cams(the higher revs), or is it a combination of higher boost and higher revs? In my case I have 280/272 cams, but normally dont rev over 7000 or boost over 25#. At any rate I think i´ll install the head studs just in case. Thanx
