best place to get a "used" evo checked out

what's the best place to get a NEWLY USED evo with 14k checked out. A friend of mine @ RB motoring is willing to check it out, but i want some where that specializes more in evo's. In fact, it's purchased at a carmax dealer.

what's wrong with carmax evo's? please elaborate. ANyway, they have the 5 day return policy, so i'll most likely return it. Anyway, they're so confident about their cars and everything, I'm just hoping they'll be willing to back up what they say.

lol -- I bought a 'carmax' evo going on 2 years ago and I have had 0 problems 13,000 miles later. Including clutch, wing fade, brake paint, TC, synchros, etc.

Just make sure you have it checked out like I did, because they do have that 5 day return policy. The local Mitsubishi dealer charged appx $70 (after tax) for the scan, which was a waste in the end, but I felt better. You just have to do your homework like any used car.

And while we're on it, I bought a carmax Mini Cooper last year -- 0 problems. My buddy at work bought a 4Runner about 2 months ago from carmax, and has also had no problems so far

BTW: this was CarMax in Columbia SC

i tried buying something from carmax awhile ago, i dont know if its just ours or whatever but the damn sales guy was so pushy, i made it on the lot about 5 steps turned around and started to leave, he asked what the problem was and i explained to him that i wasn't going to buy a car from a pushy a$$hole... i told him if i had any questions i would find him and he proceeded to jump in my back pocket and annoy the hell out of me, i had to come back an hour later and sneak in the other side of the lot... first car they supposedly checked out had a pool of oil under it.

carmax likes to paint cars that don't need it, some of there techs are fresh out of school. lude techs at jiffy-lube can get a job as a tech.the paint jobs have fisheyes and runs, their details have swirlmarks. I can go on and on but i think thats enough to steer anyone away. Have your car checked out real good and don't screw around, check for overspray and swirl marks. check everthing before the 5 days are up. TRUST ME. and if its fine then don't worry. Another thing when you do take it in for service make sure you write down you milage and don't hit the trip either, go by that milage along with the odo in case they reset the trip. Allways take EVERYTHING and i mean everything, casue it WILL walk. If you have anymore questions feelfree to pm me. good luck

Take it to Roadrace Engineering. They'll give it a once over.

That's a good call! Before I found the Black Evo in Columbia, I looked at a Red one in Greenville SC. In the building it looked great, but outside in the sun it was easy to see swirls all over. That and it looked a little faded. I don't know if this was Carmax's fault .. but it made me pass on that one.

well i know someone at RBMotoring in the city of industry, and they primarily focus on GT-R's. But the guy will put it on a lift and since he owned an EVO before, i'm sure he has a good understanding of it.

by the way, during the drive, i hear A LOT of wind noise from the rear, in which i just automatically concluded that it's the vortex generator. Does the vortex generator generate all that weird wind noise? Just seemed odd... it's not like normal wind noise, but something weird. Anyway, i'm just asking all the MR owners out there, or the people with Vortex generators on their evo's.
