Factory Clutch issues

Hey everyone my clutch went on me the other day at 16150 miles is that weird or abnormal??? I haven't been racing it or launching at 5-6k is it just a weak clutch?? I have no problem replacing it with an ACT clutch but they also said that would "void my tranny warranty if the aftermarket clutch ruins my transmition" I don't think it will but anyways its something I am willing to chance. Anyways mitsu said for the clutch im looking at spending 400 dollars (factory clutch) and then 820 dollars for labor... does that sound right? I just figure get the ACT and get it installed somewhere else for a 600 dollar quote that I got. What would you do in this situation?? Thanks everyone.

Do you plan to mod? If so, go with the ACT. If not, you may want to think about sticking with stock, but changing your driving habits. I've got over 52k on my stocker and it's still going. No launches, ever. The stock clutch is great for a stock or slightly over, but if you're modding higher than say 250whp (just a guess there) I'd go with the ACT. Just remember to keep it adjusted.

I have over 40k on a stock clutch and my car is pretty highly modified.. Most of the issues of fast wear are generally driving style related..

I suggest sticking with a stock clutch unless you plan on modding the car, but anyone who's clutch doesn't last very long definitely should work on their driving habits a litte..

+1

38,000 miles on the stock clutch here with the mods listed in my sig. I've also been to the drag strip twice, Autocrossed about a dozen times, and done 4 track days.

Clutch went out on you?
Did you mean you can't drive it anymore or it's slipping like hell?
be more specific so we can help you

But yea $400 for stock clutch and $820 labor sounds about right for dealer prices.
If you going to replace, might as well get something better to get the full potenital of an EVO (unless you're worrying about warranty issues)

btw, ACT sucks.. try Exedy stage 1 or 2

no... no burnouts in the evo, in the cobra lol. um well at first the RPMS were just surging a bit and I brought it in to mitsu, they said they couldn't make it happen again. 2 weeks later the clutch was getting worse. Which brings me to friday it felt like I was driving with the e-break up and thats when they told me the clutch is gone... it drives... barely though. Hope thats enough info.

By the way I thought a lot of people like the ACT clutch?? also do I need a new flywheel as well?

This might be a dumb question but shouldn't that be replaced under warranty at that kind of mileage?

I think the car needs to be under 10k miles.

My stock clutch went at 7000 miles. But I have a couple mods and it saw quite a few drag strip passes.

Most clutch failure here have been driving style.

Malibu is right. Stick with the stocker unless you plan on going over 380whp.

I personally have 42K on my stocker with 40+ drag launches.
