Road & Track: IX MR vs. Cayman S
Mods ?
So any thoughts on how different the test would have been with like ~$1500 in mods -- TBE, Flash, MBC? Or even better with Cams, TBE, MBC, Alky or meth, and Flash?
Have any of you with nicely mod'd IXs been at the track with other nice cars? How do the EVOs do?

ahhh, yes, stock for stock, there are cars out there that will beat up on the Evo. But modding the evo is a lot cheaper than say modding a porsche or nsx. I've had a lot of my car buddies tell me how unfair it is how well the evo responds to mods. ...get an apex noir exhaust, keep the stock wheels, slightly lower the car, and mod the motor and suspension to hell.

I had just received my issue of R&T and after happily reading it and seeing the Cayman S/EVO MR comparo I told him to go out to a local book store or news stand and pick that issue up. He did so and called me back that afternoon saying "That's the car you have?" giddy with excitement like a highschool kid. I said yep, but in grey. He said "and how is it?" I said it puts my Type R to shame in so many catagories, being that he knows I used to frequently and enthusiastically track my R in HPDE's and multiple seasons of autocross.
He had sworn he didn't really have any good reason to come back up to New York anytime soon. But he soon reversed that and said he'd be up in the fall and looked forward to some seat time. I of course said yes. Guy stuff. Neither my or his wife understand.

thats awesome man, yea i was telling my pops bout the car im looking into also...he advised i just wait till school is done with (april/march) and then to buy one, got a call about 2 weeks ago saying i better wait cause he's coming to the dealership to look into buying one as well...lol
I just bought the magazine.
The evo rocks, and if you only do a flash on it (and maybe a catback) there would be no comparison. That is the beauty of a turboed car.
Also they could take the evo afterwards to an offroad gravel road and have some-porsche-cant-do-this FUN

this thread is just too funny
it always amuses me to see how you guys defend the mitsu like it is the second comming. let's be real here for a sec, the MR is an amazing car and for the money, it is one of the best. also, yes, it takes mods extremely well and with $1500 in it, it will be way faster than the cayman. HOWEVER, 2 different cars for 2 different purposes.
looks= cayman hands down no questions asked. you stop next to a young fine lady with your evo and than with the cayman and tell me what she said...
interior= again, no comparison
fun to drive= i LOVED my ride in the cayman. the car is amazingly pure to drive.
built quality= again, no contest
like i said, the evo is amazing and i am a big fan but stop kidding yourselves, there will always be faster and better out there.

He must have pitted to go post on NASIOC that his car was to good to race on that track.
^ Porsche said that themselves, and released the Cayman S first, and detuned it so people wouldnt buy it instead of the 911.
It's true, and unless you feel that Porsche as a company is ignorant, thoughtless, and juvenile you should change your mind.

steering= EVO, you'll have to look hard and far before you can find a car that match the EVO's lightning quick steering response.
ease to drive fast= EVO, the EVO can make a noob look like a pro, that's an exaggeration of course. But on my test drive of my IX, I was amazed at how quickly I was able to learn the car, it was as if the car had been waiting for me.
seats= EVO, the only interior item that shocks and amazes the masses, the first thing people say and pretty much the only complement the interior gets, is sweet seats! They also are ultra comfortable.
space= EVO, 5 full grown adults, hey to some 2 seats is all they need, but the advantages of having room for 5 can be very useful.
AWD= EVO, to some they prefer a RWD, but it depends on what your looking for out of car, the usefulness, control, and grip of AWD cannot be ignored and is probably what most helped beat the Cayman S in the road course.
moddability= EVO, as you said before a couple of quick mods on the EVO, and it is really no contest between it and the Cayman S. A couple of quick mods on the Cayman would probably yield little gains in power, and cost an arkm and a leg.
Again, I am under no misconception that the EVO is a better car than the Cayman S, I just don't think people should overlook some of the advantages of the EVO.
